Default 991.2 Metal Sunroof to Glass Sunroof Swap

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a CPO 991.2. The car had every option I was looking for but, unfortunately, had a metal sunroof versus a glass sunroof. I prefer the glass sunroof as I like the extra light coming into the cabin.

My question for the group is there a way to swap out the metal sunroof for the glass sunroof? I understand that I would not have the sun shade that the glass sunroof comes with but that is fine. Outside of that, is it possible to replace the steel panel with a glass one? I would think the motor is the same and the buttons would function the same but I have no idea.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Congrats on your new car! I don't think it's possible given the fixed glass portions in front of and behind the glass roof. Even if the moveable panel was a direct swap, I can't see how the other portions would be as well

Congrats on the car! You would need the sunroof components, head liner and console switch ( with some programing I believe) . It is possible, the labor wouldn't be too scary for most body shops. The part list would be a bit long possibly.
If it really bugs you, you could trade parts with someone that doesnt want their sunroof ( and the 130 lbs of weight ) .

Thanks for the reply. I thought the portion in front and behind is not actually glass. It is just steel painted gloss black. As a result, I think those portions would be the same but I might be mistaken.

Thanks for the reply. If I have the steel sunroof already wouldn't the only part be the actually glass roof? The headliner and console switch and even programming should be the same. I am just guessing so I might be totally wrong. Thanks.

Take a look at this assembly line video of the 991.1 At about the 23:30 mark they install the glass sunroof assembly. You have to look fast as the camera doesn't dwell on it.

I assume it's virtually the same for the 991.2. Do you really want to change all of this? It looks extensive and expensive. You might find a better video on YouTube if you search.

IMO, it would be preferable to swap 911s.

Maybe you could get an aftermarket company interested in developing a same a same-size glass sunroof to replace your steel sunroof.

i also prefer the sunroof in glass to the smaller steel sunroof. But both are better than no sunroof, IMO.

My C2S Endurance Racing Edition has a hybrid, because of its vinyl racing stripes. It has the sunroof in glass configuration & size, but was built with a steel sunroof because of the opaque stripes on it.

IMO your asking for trouble keep what you have or as suggested sell it and get what you want

Yes! The old days where you'd take the car to some tinting/Ming Shine shop and they'd pull out a reciprocating saw and go to work on the roof.

In regards to the 991 content, it doesn't make sense to start playing around with the roofs.

That's exactly what the GT cars need. I'd be more inclined to buy a GT car if i could get one of these for it...
