HPDE tire question (colder temp)
 

I'm thinking about signing up for a HPDE event at Summit Point (FATT) in March... this'll be like my 2nd track day event ever...

Anyways, my 991.1 C2S currently has the Pirelli P0 tires on it, and since I'm still a noob in the novice group, I figure the stock street tires are good enough for typical HPDE. The question is since these tires aren't supposed to be used when it's in the 40's... and in March in VA/WV, the weather could easily be in the 40's, can I still use these tires? Will they get warm enough on the track over the course of the session, or do I scrap the idea of a March HPDE?

I would expect it should be fine once they get up to temp during hard driving.

BTW - I live in Brambleton. Maybe lll check it out too.

My recollection is the minimum recommended temperature is 40°F, not 40's. Is my memory wrong?
And they should heat up in a few laps. Agree with the 6 year old tire comment, especially if it was often parked in hot sun at sotto, in hot weather. If they were mostly part led in a cool garage, they are probably OK. A thorough tire inspection is always recommended, b4 a HPDE event, as is a brake fluid flush, of course.

You can use them, just take it easy for several laps until the tires warm up.
Brake earlier than you normally do, etc.

The car is still pretty new-to-me, I've only had it for 2 months or so. The previous owner replaced the rears just before I purchased it, but the fronts may be OEM. The car was (and still is) mostly garage kept.

P-Zeros on our cars are technically limited to 45F+

There are numerous cases of Compound cracking and delamination when used in low temps - call Tire Rack and ask :-) . I'd use something else below 50 degrees, but that's just me.

It's always easier to spend someone else's money, especially online :] Most summer tires are limited to 45F+ as stated above but just brake earlier/ give them time to heat up and you should be fine assuming you're not in the mid triple digits for too long.

Dry, in 40s, you should be able to get them up to temp as the track gets hotter throughout the day. Wet, probably not. I'd start with higher pressures than you usually do.

I'll probably gamble on a Chin event at NJMP in March myself - last week or so if the weather looks really bad I might just take the Sottozeros, otherwise I'll run the R888Rs.

I'd sign up and make it work!
