Default Replace coil packs when changing plugs?

I am going to change the plugs on my 2015 991.1 base soon. I have the plugs, but my mechanic thinks that the dealerships go ahead and replace the coil packs at the same time while they are in there. Do most people go this extra step or wait until one fails? A set is $288 at Suncoast. Thanks in advance.

Why, are the coil packs known to fail in great numbers? Besides, they are easy to replace should one fail.

If you have 100k miles or something I'd say yes, but no, I haven't seen any mention that dealerships replace them during plug changes.

I had the #5 on my '15 C2S fail at about 8k miles, and it threw a trouble light. Under warranty, the dealer replaced it and the plug, JIC. Unless you DIY with your own free labor, there are labor $aving$ to do both at the same time. $228 for extra peace of mind seems reasonable

It’s a common failure and the new coils have an updated part number. I changed all mine with the plugs in my 981 hoping for less problems in the future. This was after two separate engine misfire episodes. Not sure if the Carreras are as affected as the mid engine cars.

I know I replaced all six on my friend's 2005 997. I'm not sure if there was a recall on them, but he told me they failed, yet his old ones were already 10 years old. Maybe he got the info on some forum, so that tells us a lot...wink.

I replaced mine at 40K when the Major was done....you’re in there so why not. I’m big into preventative maintenance and have never been stranded by any of my vehicles over the past 40 years.

I had a coil pack (and a water pump fwiw) fail at 40K mi on my previous CaymanS. So yes, they do fail, but they are cheap and easy to do by Porsche standards... That one was showing a damaged boot and signs of water intrusion (lived in FL at the time, downpours galore). But, as said above, coil packs are super easy to replace so you could wait. Preemptive repairs for $228 make sense in theory, but what might stop me from going for it is the COVs situation, sometimes a new part will fail even faster than a good old part!

You mean like a part that is proven. Like the ten year old "original" coil packs that were fine but my friend wanted them replaced.
