991.2 Carrera Base surface rust on Caliper bolts
has anyone ever replaced these or powder coated or anything? I need to do something as it drives me nuts... I suppose a dab of high heat paint would do the trick but curious if anyone has ever removed them or replaced? not sure if that’s a bolt you can take out or if it holds some sort of pressured area together?? |
I cannot seem to add the photo I have taken. It is the visible bolts on the face of the calipers that have the external torx bolts |

Mine were rusty as well and I couldn't stand it, so I just got a tiny paint brush with some paint and touched them up. I am not sure it was even high heat paint but it has stayed on well for a few years.

If you’re using Sonax Full Effect wheel cleaner that’s likely the culprit. |
No road salt?
Many wheel cleaners are corrosive, and needed to be rinsed, rinse again, repeat etc. Ive used 409 for 25 years because it's cheap by the gallon and very effective. Never had any corrosion, but as you now know, I'm fanatical about rinsing, again and again and... I do tires and wheels with 409 and rinse them first, with separate sponge and bucket, and then rinse the wheels several times again while washing the car. |
Isn’t it recommended to replace the bolts when changing pads? |

Thank you for the help to attach photo, I was trying to add it with the “manage attachments” button and that did not work i have not used sonax for the wheel cleaner but road salt is definitely possible cause as I live in the Midwest and it does see winter use i might try just the paint brush... they look awful!! thank you everyone :) |

I just clean mine up with a wire brush seems to work fine |
The #18 bolts do not need to be removed for pad change.
Getting them painted or clear coated ( if cleaned) would work. |
Before and After. Thanks for the advice guys. Cleaned them with a brush and alcohol. Small paint brush and heat paint. Total time: 2 beers. dont mind the dirty wheels. It’s winter here in the Midwest :) https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f72029016.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2dffd8a80.jpeg |
