After market exhaust options for 991.1
I'm thinking to get a little more sound out of the exhaust system and looking for advise/recommendations for a 991.1 base without PSE. I have seen exhaust thread for GT3 but did not see anything for 991.1 model.
What is the best exhaust mods for more noise but without the drone and doesn't break the bank? Exhaust bypass? center muffle delete? high flow cat? Some options I came across are Fabspeed, AWE, SOUL, etc. Just want to hear feedback/comments from anyone that had done something similar and happy with the outcome, or someone not happy with outcome to share their experience. Thanks in advance! |
I've been wanting to do an exhaust compilation thread for the 991.1 for quite some time but haven't gotten around to it. Still on stock PSE so can't comment on any of these; just a faithful window shopper. Here's a few to get you going :)

Get the Kline Iconel you won't ever be disappointed. Sound awesome, quality top notch. Best out there for 991.1.

I am a fan of the Soul high-cats and many Rennlisters have them as well, do a search of Soul and you will find numerous threads about them, and they make other exhaust components as well.

Check out Soul....well made great pricing and customer service. |
I put the Fister mufflers on my 991.1 without PSE. It is easy and inexpensive. I wish they were a little louder, but its deeper and no drone. For the money its a great way to get maybe 20% more sound. Here is a cold start video I did.

I have AWE Switchpath on mine and love it

When I bought my (used) 2013 Carrera S it had the "normal" exhaust setup. The first thing I did was to have the dealer install the PSE because I wanted to have a more robust exhaust and wanted to stay Porsche stock. I wanted Porsche stock to make sure I stayed away from anything that would create a drone. This is my 3rd Porsche and the third time I have modified the exhaust system -- was not really happy with the results of the first two changes -- great sound but the drone on the first was noticeable and downright obnoxious on the highway on the second. The PSE has been great and I am glad I went that way as I have enjoyed the more robust sound and now have the switch to have a bit more control when it is loud around town.
Right now I am very interested in the Soul system and am anxiously looking forward to the new system components they are going to release for the 991.1 in early 2019. Hopefully what they develop will provide more power (headers primarily), a lot better sound (headers and exhaust) and no drone. I am glad I went ahead and did the PSE because I have enjoyed the exhaust to date and have the right "infrastructure" in place for going forward. |

Maybe don't make recommendations on things you don't know anything about? Soul doesn't make cats for the 991.1 |

I was in the same situation and after doing a bunch of research went with the Sharkwerks Sport Exhaust, which essentially replaces the central muffler with a bypass x pipe. It's a relatively simple and inexpensive install option. It's essentially like having PSE with the valves open all the time. I've had mine for about 3 years now and I've been very pleased with it.

On the Sharkwerks X Pipe, does the exhaust just come out of one of the exhaust tips?
|
You only have the one exhaust outlet on the standard base 991. You can put some quad tips on which I did and look good - exhaust only comes out one outlet on each side. Don't waste your money on Fabspeed like I did - tarnish and they don't stand behind them. Get the Chinese knockoffs which are just fine.
I did the Sharkwerks x-pipe and it is really good and relatively inexpensive. Who cares what they look like under the car since you don't see them. Sound with the x-pipe is really good and you might get a slight drone at idle but certainly not a major annoyance. Went on a mountain driving trip with some friends who have GT4s and GT3s and they all loved the sound of my car. Other thing to remember is you can spend a lot of money on exhaust and you will only see a small percentage return when you sell it or the car. |

ECUUUUUUUUUUUSE me Garfunky! Technically I did not recommend them, and Soul is actually working on them now so maybe you should do a little research.
On another board was just speaking about the ability of a cayman/boxster vs a 911. People like you that don't know chime in a make statements about the cayman being better handling. It's not. Mid engine? okay - 7% better weight balance but an equal generation will never be as planted as a 911. Ever. On a 991.1 911 - you cannot simply replace the cats like on a 991.2... Making such a statement confuses the OP and is a giveaway the the person making the suggestion doesn't know what they're talking about and has no experience in this area. |
