991.1 vs 997.2 C4S: anyone owned both?

I have a buyer lined up for my 997.2 C4S, even though I have not been actively looking to sell. I wouldn't mind getting a PDK car to replace it, as I can get my 6MT fix on my wife's car.

Would the 991.1 C4S be a good replacement? I think it looks a lot better than the C2S; I love the light bar.

The other option is just to get a lower mile C4S 997.2 with a few options my car is missing (sport seats, sport suspension).

It seems the delta between the two is around $15-20k.

This car will be a part time DD. Thanks!

In my very personal opinion having owned a 997 and multiple 991s, the 991 is so much better than the 997 it's not even close. So yes, it will be a nice upgrade. I would never go back to a 997.

I had a 2011 911 C4S that I purchased in 2013 with 27,500 miles and sold in 2016 with slightly over 70,00 miles on the clock getting the 2015 991.1 Targa 4S that I have now put 17,000 miles on in the last 18 months or so (and yes, the Targa is a little different than a C4S Coupe). I loved the 997.2 (which was an upgrade from a 1999 base Boxster), but the 991.1 is in a different league in my mind. So much more refined and luxurious (especially mine as it has way over $60K in options...). It is faster and has a smoother power delivery than the 997.2. I do not track or autocross, but do partake on spirited drives with my Porsche (PCA) compadres. You really need to go and drive a 991.1 to see the difference and I am convinced that you will "sold" immediately on the 991.1 I was amazed how much different and better it is.

I was looking at purchasing a 997.2 S, and test drove back to back the 997 and 991, the 991 is massive step ahead in performance, luxury, and features. Ended up with a 991.1 C2S.

I just got my 991 4 weeks ago, and was also leaning towards a 997 originally. After driving both, I realized that the 991 is a much more modern/refined car, for both better and worse. Both are great cars - it just depends on what you are looking for. The 991 definitely feels larger, but its size diminishes the faster you go. Good luck!

Owned a 997.1 Turbo and currently own a 991.1 Turbo S. The 991.1 is better in all aspects, but it's almost too good. So good i miss the "drama" of the 997. Burmester audio, cooled seats, better NHV insulation, smooth driving like a Cadillac, RWS make city driving and parking easy, and as usual for a 911, excellent visibility. It's the perfect daily driver, but almost too good.

Cool, thanks everyone! It seems that I should find one to drive! I have driven plenty of 991 models, but unfortunately nothing of the AWD variety. I have found the 991 C2 base to be very exciting. I was able to get one out on some twisty backroads and I had that thing sideways in short order. It was locked down until it wasn't! I don't know if the C4S is a bit dull in comparison. In the 997 platform, having owned both, I prefer the visual of the C4S but the C2S is a more engaging car. The suspension is set up from the factory a bit better; the weight distribution is different, and it just has a bit more character.
