New to me 991.1 Targa 4 GTS 7MT
Hi everyone,
This is Watson, I am French and this is my first post on Rennlist. I am excited to join the Rennlist community.
I have a passion for cars since I was a kid, helping my father repair or wash his cars (VW, Mercs W108, W123). I think that the one and best gift I got from my ol' man.
After having dreamt of 993 while being a student and missed the window to buy then while they were still cheap as second hand cars, I worked hard and saved to be in a position where I can now aim to buying a second hand 991.1 Targa.
I plan on keeping this 991.1 Targa till the end so the topic of resale value or appreciation / depreciation is not a criteria for me.
The Targa will be used as a weekend / holiday car, definitely not a daily driver. I may occasionally track the car in Spa or the Nurb (once a year at the very most).
My first choice is the GTS because I just love the look of the RS spyder centerlock wheels and of the sport design front bumper.
I dont think I will notice the extra torque/power of the GTS over the 4S.
I have some questions regarding the difference of the 4S / GTS Targa based on the ads I have seen.
- There is one Targa 4S with PDCC (whereas the Targa GTS I am interested in does not have PDCC) : does PDCC come with lowered chassis (-10mm compared to a regular Targa 4?). Is the Targa GTS without PDCC also lowered compared to a Targa 4?
- The Targa 4S has PCCB (whereas the Targa GTS does not) : has anyone done a PCCB to steel brake conversion? I have seen a PCCB to steel brake conversion on FVB website but it seems it's only for 991 GT3.
- The Targa 4S originally came from the USA and then was imported to Europe and converted to EU specs (bumpers etc) : do you know if the US version had a DMTL (Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage) and the EU (Euro5) version did not have a DMTL?
I am supposed to give an answer to the seller of the Targa GTS tomorrow, if somebody could help me answer the questions above, that'd be awesome - sorry for joining rennlist so late, I just found out about the car ads yesterday.
Any feedback of owners of 991.1 Targas (especially with MT) are welcome.
Cheers,
Watson.

ok so after a research on the 991 Technical Information thread : PDCC does not change the height of the car.
Carrera S comes standard with PASM so the Targa 4S is 10mm lowered compared to a Targa 4. I assume the Targa GTS is also 10mm lowered compared to a Targa 4.

Another thing I have read but not sure how if this is a real issue or not : the 7MT was found to have some clearance/play on 991.1 Carrera and Carrera S - it seemed this was improved on 991.1 GTS and 991.2 : is that correct?

I had a 991.1 targa 4s with pdk, and traded it for a 991.1 targa GTS manual. Couldn’t be happier with the car, the manual gts is so much more fun to drive, something to look forward to driving. No offense to pdk 4s owners, I just didn’t feel the car was as spirited as I was hoping it would be, the manual gts is exactly what I was hoping for. Can be driven aggressively and hard, but can still work well as a family summer cruiser.

My 991.1 targa GTS manual lowered with Techart springs.
Also, the Targa GTS, I believe is the same height as the Targa 4S. It is not 10mm lower. I used techart springs and lowered mine.

Ditto, my Targa GTS is a great car with the 7MT and everything I expected, and more. It is like a Coupe with the top up, Cab with the top down and the best looking 911 albeit I am biased.

Saw a yt vid today and the head of 911 chassis development was interviewed and he stated the targa is -10mm simply because it is a targa. Porsche didn’t do -20mm because they didn’t feel that owners of targa wanted that since it would not likely be tracked. Reviewer heavily but politely disagreed.
I found it interesting that the turbo s wheels on the GTS are wider than on the turbo s itself because the turbo s has larger turbos and there was not room for 12” wheels in the rear. Neat vid.

@ joeacc : your car is exactly the spec I want except I would prefer a silver rollbar!

I had my silver roll bar wrapped in shiny black metallic so I can remove the vinyl wrap any time and return it to stock. Just liked the color matched bar, but it does look great in silver also. Good luck with your purchase.

Hi,
just a quick update as I did not give news for a long time. Both targas were booked and sold before I made an offer so I will continue to look for one in the future. Thanks to the Rennlisters who helped me!

Hi
I hope everyone is safe and healthy in these difficult times.
Unfortunately my partner has been recently diagnosed for a tumor so we are going to save money for her medical expenses for the near future. So I must park my project to buy a manual 991.1 Targa GTS.
I had found one a couple of weeks ago : https://www.wisimonson.net/used/Pors...gurus_listings
It's a black 991.1 Targa 4 GTS with a manual gearbox with 11k miles, nice options like Bi-Led in black, 18 way seats, clear tail lights, leather seats, Sport design steering wheels... I could not dream a better configuration...
Anyway, I will have to pass on this car but if a fellow Rennlister has the cash, then please take this car to a nice home where it will be cared for (and hopefully I can buy it from you when my partner health is back on track :-D ).
The price is 114k USD but when I first saw the add, it was 120kUSD and then 115kUSD so this tells me they don't want to keep this car too long. In my opinion, the price is really attractive, I believe you could negotiate a little bit more.
I hope someone in the Rennlist community will benefit from this opportunity.
Disclaimer : I have no affiliation whatsoever with the dealer, just wanted to share a good deal with the rest of the community.
Stay safe, stay home.
Cheers,
Watson
