Objectively speaking: 991.2 or 991.1 for a $90k purchase?
Without getting into a hornet's nest here, I want to hear what people have to say about each of these cars. I am considering a fairly high dollar purchase, and am looking at either late model 991.1 4S, GTS, or 4GTS models. At the $90k+ price point however, the 991.2 comes into play. I have driven both, but they were limited test drives. Obviously, nobody is going to loan me a car to take 100 miles out to the mountain roads I want to really test the car on. I owned a 2012 C2S manual, so I know the 1st-gen pretty well.
Differences I have been able to discern already: the NA engine vs Turbo (Turbo faster, NA more engaging); exhaust (PSE sounds better in the 991.1); handling (dampers feel more refined and tighter in the 991.2) and the newer car seems to handle better; the clutch and transmission is improved on the 991.2.
Good summary? The 991.1 GTS models are coming down in price and I can probably pick one up in the low 90's if I am patient, but boy, the 991.2 feels like the quicker car, at least from a handling perspective, at least the one I drove when I swapped with a fellow RL'er on a drive recently. It was one impressive car. I was all set on the .2, but now I am thinking GTS again. The GTS may depreciate a bit less, which is a good thing. The ones I see for sale are about the same price as the 991.2 C2S models, which are a year newer.
People bag on the .2 as not being that engaging, but everyone who has a T seems to love it. There doesn't seem to be that much logic behind some of this reasoning.
991.2 GTS is out of the question. Can't afford it.

17,000 miles on a 991.2 S here. I’d hardly characterize this model as less engaging than any other car I’ve driven except maybe my Cobra. But of course, I’m biased.

There are so many threads here that talk about the differences, which would be ideal for you to read; however, it seems too late now as the hornets have left the nest.

That sounds an awful lot like a canned talking point. I'm curious what it actually means, because it certainly isn't objectively speaking as you mention in the OP. It's hard offering an opinion without knowing what that means. It could be valid, or maybe not.

992 is out, wait a few months and check the pricing.

First World Problems, OP!
Buy the car you enjoy driving the most, within your budget.
Having driven both 2's and .1's, the wife and I settled on a 991.1GTS.
Reasoning: it sounds like a Porsche with hips wider than Shakira's and with plenty of performance to boot.
The base .2 we drove was the most uneventful test drive in a loooong time (for us!). Fast without a doubt but absolutely transactional and underwhelming.
Before the .2 owners deliver coal for Christmas, I'm not insulting you, I just don't like your cars. Happy that you are enjoying them and I mean that sincerely!
Let us know what you end up getting.

I almost bought one locally last summer; I couldn't get over the mental 6 digit price hurdle. Maybe I can find one that has some mileage
Have you driven a .2 aside from a "base"? It seems like it might be a different car. Maybe not though

You have to decide for yourself as so many factors should be considered....racing, handling, extra power and torque, emotional engagement.
Setup back to back test drives with both and you'll know which one you like.
If you'll worry about depreciation or expect appreciation walk away and buy something else.
Have fun shopping, wish I was on the market for another car as I love test drives and cracking sales *****

.1 and .2 are two very different cars. I doubt you will be able to decide based on our inputs. You need to drive both hopefully back to back for as much time as you need to see which one you like more. Between the two I'd go 991.1 GTS. I had one and loved it. As for mental 6-digit price barrier, IMO better to think the price delta. It will be less digits

I drove both the .1 & .2 and wound up ordering a .2. I liked the way the latter looked, drove, accelerated and sounded as it had Fabspeed high-flow cats, which I have on mine now albeit mine are from Soul Performance. One really has to do what I did though since everything is subjective.

991.2 turbo models feel significantly faster for sure. 991.1's have higher redline and sound better to me. NA will soon be a thing of the past.
Slightly over 90k-ish but honestly if you're considering a turbo model, why not try to get an allocation for a 992 C2 when they're out? 992 aside my bias opinion is a good buy on a 991.1 GTS.
I'm personally sticking to NA and have been scoping out a 991.2 GT3's slash see what happens with the 992 GT cars if I can get an allocation.

I too recommend driving both the .1 and .2. I don’t think that you will have a hard time deciding which one is for you. And if you can’t decide then don’t buy either because it’s just not the right car for you. It will be that apparent.
