Oil Change Humor
#17
I just helped my buddy do an oil change in his 2015 Cayenne Turbo and all four rotors/pads. He had a quote from Beverly Hills Porsche for "$6,000 to $8,000" to cover both services (why such a range I have no idea probably to gauge the reaction on the customers face as to the price elasticity). Basically saved him around $4,000 and it took 3 hours. I just got my 2015 991.1 base back from Irvine Porsche for some rodent damage. They listed as a labor item to "replace Techquipment gas cap" on the invoice. That is to put the aluminum looking gas cap back on. I am surprised they didn't list shutting the doors, moving the car into the shop, etc.

This is actually upsetting to read. I'm up in arms over the local $425 rate, at $600+ I'm saying some mean things.
My solution: bribe one of the mechanics and they'll wrench on the side for 20 cents on the dollar (true story btw).
The stealer thinks he's clever but I'm smarter!

I just called Porsche North Scottsdale today to see what they charge for a standard oil change and was told $250. That's not bad IMO for 9 quarts of oil plus filter and labor.
The other nice thing about having the dealership do the oil change is the Carfax reporting that they do.

This is for high rent district. Middle of nowhere dealer - $266. This was for "oil service" that includes all those VERY IMPORTANT inspections. Oh, I forgot to mention, I got the 10% PCA discount.

Wonder how much they charge for a GT2RS oil change, since the rear bumper needs to come off to get access to the oil filter.

$250 is not terrible I live out in the sticks and they wanted $380 at the stealership. Once you see how insanely simple it is to change the oil in one of these cars you will feel totally ripped off paying someone else. Has anyone ever tried superlube or one of those places ?

I pay about $200 and supply my own Mobil 5W50. I plan to learn some day and buy the code reader to reset the service light. Maybe this coming year.......maybe next.

The dlr doesn't charge me that much for the oil change. On the other hand, I recently read that the annual service/oil change on a Bugatti Veyron is $21k. The last time I had my 911 in the annual service, I think it was about $800. My bill was sitting next to one for a 918, which I couldn't help notice was $4k. I guess they were trying to make me feel better.

Burning Brakes
Look at it this way. We all think that our cars, especially 6 figure ones, are special. They are indeed special to us, in our eyes and hearts but they're just metal and plastic put together by robots and human beings. What was put together can also be dismantled. Same goes for software and computers, hence no shortage of hackers and cyber security jobs. I can't speak for exotics but from what I can tell when I crawl underneath my 911, it doesn't seem that special or difficult to work on. Things like oil changes and brakes (pads, rotors, and fluid flush) are as easy as they come. I know that some of y'all don't like to get your hands dirty but I somewhat enjoy tinkering around with cars. Even if I had money flowing out of my pockets, I would never pay $600+ for an oil & filter change. I'm not a cheap scape but I refuse to get ripped off.

$640 is insane.
