991.2 C2 Windshield
Is there a Porsche Factory windshield that needs to be used for a replacement?
My wife just got our 1st big-a$$ chip/crack in our 2 month old C2. This usually happens in Phoenix every 1-2 years. When I call tomorrow to get it replaced I will definitely ask for the "exact factory replacement". I'm just wondering what to expect from them.

I just replaced my windshield in my 2018 991.2 C4. I debated going OEM like I did in my 981 two years ago. I ended up going safelite this time. $560 bucks and they came to my house. It looks just like OEM and all the functions work (Sat radio, GPS, FM, AM, garage door opener etc). I can't tell the difference.
OEM was $1364 just for the windshield, not including install.
Glass is glass. The windshield is not OEM anyway. Someone else makes it just like your PCM.

Right on. I have full glass coverage (in Az this is a must) with $0 deductible. We literally go through a windshield every 18 months. Anyone who lives in Az can vouch for this. All the windshields we have had done have the exact same features as the oem’s.

I got a chip on Friday heading to get my Soul High-flow cats installed, about a mile onto I-95. I could not tell where it hit and I actually hoped it was the windshield as opposed to the paint/PPF. Safelite is coming over tomorrow to see if they can repair it albeit it is just a divot so I am hoping they can just use some fill material, and the car is less than a month old. I'll ask him what the cost of the OEM one is; I have a zero deductible with Progressive so the repair is free, as well as the whole thing if I ever need one.

That is rotten luck! Many years ago when I bought what was (for me) my first nice-ish car (328i) i got a rock chip literally 2 days after driving off with it. I was crushed because it was not a free repair with insurance and at the time it was a lot of money for me. Hate to see new cars get dinged so quickly!

I wouldn't worry about Porsche original versus aftermarket. At least not in the UK. I had two on previous 981 and 718 when chip too big to repair. Both times insurance company insisted I use Autoglass (or some specialist beginning Auto) rather than OPC for them to pay under their windscreen minimal excess with no affect on no claims discount next time. Mobile service was excellent, skilled guys who doing nothing else, and they assured me that aftermarket identical because only one supplier/factory makes them (possibly Pilkington or whoever Porsche buy them in from). And I checked very thoroughly on both occasions and could not see any difference between the old and the new, including all the shading, camera stuff and sensors, which they had the kit to calibrate properly with auto lights, rain sensor, etc. They said might not have the almost invisible Porsche logo but I couldn't even see this on the original bought new. I saw some sort of internal invoice too, well over £1000 just for the glass. Don't think you can get ringers from China. Same when my wife had Evoke screen replaced too.

Safelite repaired the ding in my windshield today in under 5 minutes (billed Progressive $60 + tax). It appears to look better albeit I still see it, which I expected. And I asked him what a new OEM windshield would cost: $1200.

Called my local Porsche Dealer today, they steered me to a exotic auto glass place. We did a 3-way call with State Farm. My full glass policy ($3.75/month for each of our vehicles) covered it at 100%. It will be an OEM product, they had to order it from Porsche, should be in 3-4 days. I said I needed documentation as well showing it is an OEM product.
If I would have had the clear UV tint on it, like I am getting next week, that would be covered as well at 100%.
As the vehicle gets older the Insurance pushes for an aftermarket replacement, we'll see what happens then.
All good.
