991.2 GTS (2018) - problem with sport exhaust
Went for a short 10 mile drive today; after getting off the highway where I hit 70-75 mph with aggressive acceleration, I noticed that the wonderful “bubbly/snap/crackle/pop” sound from sport exhaust was barely audible. Stopped the car and started again, and toggled the drive selector as well as the sport exhaust button and.....no change.
Anyone ever have this issue?

The crackles and pops only work in SPORT mode. They aren't there in Normal or Sport-Plus.

The sound in sport with PSE activated should be very distinct and clear. No question about whether you’re in the correct driving mode and if PSE is on or off. Normally I would say that in this case either there is something wrong with the driving modes or the PSE itself. As the driving modes is primarily software and I cannot imagine anything going wrong with that during a short drive that leaves the PSE. Can you tell if PSE is operating correctly, for example also in normal and sport plus there should be a noticeable difference in the sound.

One of the most likely culprits is a failed change-over valve on the PSE vacuum line. If the problem was a disconnected vacuum line the PSE would stay loud all of the time since the valve's default position is open and vacuum is used to hold it closed. The 991.1s have had a lot of problems with these valves, I'm not sure how much better the 991.2 ones. It is unlikely that the valves have seized shut. Although this is a known problem on 997 models I haven't heard about it on the 991 models.
The dealership should be able to quickly diagnose and resolve this, but here's the little I know. On the 991.1 the valve is on the top right side of engine. You can find it by tracing the vacuum line backwards from the PSE valve on the exhaust but it's really buried. I found this video showing the location on a 991.1, but couldn't easily find anything with its position on a 991.2:

Agree with StormRune. On my previous car (991.1 S) my Sport Exhaust failed and lost the burps and gurgles. Dealer replaced the switch-over solenoids and issue resolved. It was a quick fix

Thank you all
Appreciate every single one of your responses!
I will have to take it to the dealer to get it diagnosed and fixed - but your hypotheses are super helpful.
I will report back after.... THANKS!!

OP, definitely curious as to what you find on this. Some of that burble/overrun sound is contributed to from ECU programming, so I'm wondering if there is something on the software side at play here.

Update - after having the car for 2 days, dealer tells me there’s no problem with the exhaust. They said ‘the flaps are working fine’ - but they didn’t compare to another 991.2 GTS.
Went back there and took a different service advisor and a tech for a ride and they were definitely in my camp - you cannot hear any ‘burps and gurgles’ when in sport mode or w/PSE on.
Decided to just leave and will go back some other time or try another dealership. More to come.
