Seat belt latch rattle
Does anyone have rattles on the passenger side where the belt clicks in (the red button latch part)? Both of my 991's have had this rattle. When you tap that part it seems so cheap....oh well I should be happy that this is my only rattle. It's just distracting in an otherwise tight car.

My driver's one was driving me crazy. Passenger was fine. I had it checked out for a warranty repair. I was convinced it was the mechanism itself but it turned out to be the outside of it rubbing against the seat. They adjusted it and put some felt tape on it. Under warranty, no charge. Perhaps yours have the same issue. Put a piece of cloth between the seat and the belt mechanism and if the sound goes away you will know.

WD40 is your friend here. I have to put a tiny bit between the seatbelt latch and where it contacts the seat. It goes away but you will have to reapply every few months. Or some type of similar lubricant I know people on this forum have their own favorites.

My 911 and Boxster both do this on the driver side.

A dab if white lithium grease will help and last longer.

Thread revival - noticed a new rattle the other day while driving. Turns out the latch where the seat belt plugs in has something rattling around inside. This can be easily replicated by pushing the red release, the rattles are obvious. Interesting that when shining a light inside, the mechanism differs on the passenger side, however both rear seats seem to have the same design as the driver's side, with less rattling though.
Does anyone else have this issue? Also, I would be very interested to know if (and why) the seat mechanisms are different between the driver/passenger/rears. The front passenger side one is silent and the red button depresses a bit more than the other 3. Any help / advice would be appreciated!

I had the issue - I replaced the latch ~$150 from Suncoast and 30 minutes to install. You have to take the seat out. All of the other fixes were temporary - this solved it completely.

You're welcome. Price was $136.98, PN 991-803-183-00 for the driver side.

Swung by the dealer today and they took a quick look... they confirmed it needs to be replaced and the part is on order. One thing the tech noticed was that compared to the other 3, the rattling one's red button did not sit flush without the seat belt clicked in. The other three sit nice and flush. Something to look for. He said it was a return spring or something similar inside.

Looks like my latch assembly on the driver’s side is now ready for replacement as well - sounds like an easy enough job to remove the seat and swap it out. Would welcome any tips on seat removal I’m sure there’s probably a DIY post around here somewhere.
