Default 991.2 RWD GTS Carrera S Actual Wheel Specs?

I've got a build that gets frozen around 12/7. I'm trying to decide between the GTS center lock (Turbo S style) or the 5 lug (Carrera S style). The configurator shows the same wheel specs regardless of the wheel type I choose:

F: 9x20 ET51
R: 12x20 ET63

However, I have seen some folks say, here on Rennlist, that the Carrera S style wheels are actually 11.5 x 20 (not sure about the fronts). I'm wondering if they are confusing a Carrera S wheel on an actual C2S vs a Carrera S style wheel on a C2GTS? I know the wheels were made wider in the 991.2 than the 991.1.

Does anybody with a 2018 or 2019 GTS that opted to go with the 5-lug Carrera S style wheels know (from checking the wheels themselves) what the actual specs are?

Other factors I'm weighing between the two wheels:
  • 5-lug aftermarket options (for winter setup) are generally cheaper than CLs
  • The Carrera S wheels have a symmetrical design, the Turbo S wheels are slightly asymmetrical
  • The CLs are claimed to be somewhat lighter and stronger, although I've not seen actual weights of the two listed
  • Changing 5-lug wheels is super easy; CLs are more complicated
My SA says both wheels are 12" (and 9"), but he admits he doesn't have an actual C2GTS w/Carrera S style wheel to check to be 100% certain.

Thanks.

Just checking, is that for the 991.2? Or the 991.1? And are you getting that directly from the wheel or some other source of information? There seems to be a bunch of conflicting information about it.

Thanks.

Why for the love of God would you not do centerlock on a GTS?

Seriously they are just awesome and one of the great features that come on a GTS.

I might still do the CLs. I have another day to decide.

But I tend to like to swap my own wheels to switch between summer/winter setups. And if I track the car w/any frequency, I'd want to swap setups for that as well (and CLs are easier to screw up and require more checks on track days, from what I understand).

Swapping wheels is a lot easier with the 5-lugs. And I already have everything needed to do it very quickly for the non-CLs whereas I'd have to go out and buy all the stuff for the CLs.

Another reason is that winter tire options (295's) seem to fit 11.5" wheels better, and I'll probably spend 5.5 to 6 months per year on the winter setup.

Also, I'm not entirely sure I like the look of the CLs Turbo S wheels as much as I like the 5-lug Carrera S wheels.

But yeah, I might still do the CLs despite all that because they are unique within the non-GT range of 911s.

One other reason I can think of to skip the CL wheels is that, if doing a long road trip, there are spare wheel/tire options for lug-based wheels. I don't know of any for CL wheels, nor would changing CLs on the road be something I'd want to do, what with the recommendation to jack all 4 corners before swapping the wheel.

interesting. I think they look awesome, but would not want them ona car that I plan to drive all year round.

I track my car and thus change the tires, rotate them, doing maintainence, etc. about 20 times a year.
Center locks would drive me nuts.

Plus spare rims are much, much cheaper....

But it's still a whole lot faster to jack one wheel up at a time and use an impact wrench (although an impact wrench might damage the finish on the lug nuts).

Decisions... decisions...

First world problems for sure. I went through the same dilemma for the same reasons as mentioned. In the end, I chose CLs for the looks. With the right tools, I can’t see how CLs are any more difficult than turning 5 lug nuts.

The five lug rims on my 991.2 GTS are: front = 8.5x20 et49, rear = 11.5x20 et 56. CL are certainly cool looking but try going to the neighborhood tire store to have a flat fixed - forgetaboutit.

Thanks. I appreciate the information.

After a reviewing a ton of photos, I actually think I like the Carrera S wheels better than the Turbo S wheels. The CLs are cool and are a semi-unique thing, and it's a cleaner look. But those things weren't enough to convinced me in the end and I've just submitted my final changes to my build spec (my freeze date is next week - so theoretically I could change something, but I don't think I will).

My plan is to use the stock wheels as my winter set (295 fits 11.5 better than 12). I'll have the dealer mount the Michelin winters before I pick up the car. Then I'll order summer wheels (probably Forgeline) and will go a bit wider (at least 9 front, 12 rear). Might even sell the unused Pirelli rubber and go with wider Michelin rubber than the 305s... gonna have to think about it.
