celebrating the 991
Just wanted to show some love for the 991 with the 992 set to be announced and officially unveiled today
I remember when I first saw the 991.1, it was a black Carrera S in my local dealer's showroom and loved everything about the car inside and out. The interior looked amazing (loved the buttons and cockpit design) and it felt like PAG had hit the nail on the head with the exterior design and proportions (I liked that the car felt a bit larger, but also more planted and glued to the road). 991.2 came around and I felt like PAG applied just minor touches to an already gorgeous design that ended up even better to my eyes (not here to get into turbos vs NA!). Now currently have two 991.2s myself and maybe it's because I'm a bit younger, but the 991 gen is a special one to me. It was my first Porsche 911 (991.2 C4) as well as my first GT car (991.2 GT3)..
My .2 C4 in Hawaii when I first took delivery... amazing amazing car
My .2 GT3 in CA after returning from euro delivery... just an incredible machine in it's own way
On the fence with the 992 and its Panamera style interior, only time will tell...but I'll always love the 991 gen cars

I think 991 is a wonderful car but the world goes forward and so must 992. The electronics are a fact of modernization and one day, I suspect in about 25 years, there will be no cars allowed on public road that are not fully autonomous. Sometimes the future is less fun but nothing can stop the march into the future.

As to the back of 992, like any other inanimate object, it is a matter of personal taste. I, for example, very much like it. As to the interior, Porsche offers such a wide range of interior options including standard, "Standard" Exclusive, CXX and sometimes even beyond, that I am confident that one make it as comfortable and as elegant as desired.

I can't remember not being enamored with Porsches, but I do remember not being keen on the 997 design when I could finally afford one. When my wife and I saw the first Porsche photos of the 991, I was hooked (and she was on board). Now on my second 991 (a 991.1 and 991.2), it will be interesting to see if I become an old fart and turn my nose up at the 992 or if it will grow on me. The new piano black interiors across the Porsche line are a tough sell though.

Every generation or so, Porsche makes a simply beautiful 911 model, between which the cars are anywhere from meh to downright ugly. The 991.1 was the latest, and possibly the last, of the purely beautiful 911's. While I'm sure there are a lot of people who will love the new 992 Canamera, it's definitely an apple fallen far from the 911 tree.

My household has most-definitely voted with its wallet.
I’ve written it before: The 991/981 generation was the first generation I think Porsche got right inside and out since the 928. The 996 was ok but the interior was a mess. The 997 was gorgeous and ‘cured’ the exterior. Same comment for 987 versus 986. But the interiors were still a hot mess.
The 9.1s (and 718) are the complete package.
I’m trying to figure out where to put a 6-MT 981 or 718. At that point I’ll have ‘the set.’

I am one of those Porsche owners that hasn't owned a 911. I have owned two 981s, including the current GT4 I have. We also have a 718 and a Macan. But never a 911. I've gone back and forth on finding a 964 or 993 and almost said yes to a 991.2 GT3 allocation, but just couldn't commit. I love the 997 exterior and the interior is fine. But the 991 is just beautiful inside and out.
Now, with the 718s and 992s I'm just not sure, for me, there will be another new Porsche. If I get rid of the GT4 it may well be a CPO .2 GT3 that does it. I know the world moves on. Evolve or die. I accept that. And maybe the 992 will suddenly grow on me when the GT cars arrive, I don't know. But for now I'll keep admiring the 991 as one of the most beautiful 911s produced.
