Me 3, but I did a short stint on my last one to switch over to 5/50. Blackstone report after only 2500 miles showed it at the very minimum for 10/40. In feb I'll do another one on the 5/50 and see. I should say I do 5000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first.

I've decided to perform an oil change at the half way point into the first year's recommended interval.

So my first change will be at 5k or the first year then every 5k or 1 year therafter.

I think this is sensible.

I specifically asked the service advisor this two weeks ago. My 2018 911 Carrera was in the shop at 4K miles for a water pump (imagine that). I am due for my complementary Porsche 1 year service in late December and I asked If I could have it done with the water pump whereas I wont have to bring it in again. I HATE being without it!

He stated no. I need to leave the initial oil in there for the entire 1 year. Something about the oil from the Factory is a special blend for the breaking in period. After that the factory recommendation is every 10K miles or 1 year whichever comes first.

Well there we go. This settles this for me. I'll change the oil at the one year mark or 10k miles!

I thought break-in oil was done away with years ago...how old was the tech that told you it had to stay in for 1 year?

Yes, really. I did not mean I need to know his birthday! Was he an older guy in his 70s or younger in his 30s? My Dad is 75 and he was in town from NY the other day and asked me if the car had break-in oil...follow my drift?

This oil thing is really confusing. I've done a lot of googling, and this is a subject there isn't a good answer to. The manufactor recommends 1 year/10000 miles, but we don't believe them? Why shouldn't we? And i dont think its because they want us to buy a new engine every 5th year..
here in Europe its even more. 2 years/30000 km. Same car, same oil. Different fuel?

Changed my GT4's oil as well as my first 991.2's within the first 400-600 miles. Changed the current 991.2's oil before the car hit 1000 miles...I think 800. Did something similar with a fresh 2.2 six a few years ago. Tend to do every 5,000~ with synthetics, and used to do every 3,000 miles with dino oil. Getting more comfortable with the idea of 7,500 miles between changes, but wary of 10,000 miles. As someone said, oil and filters are cheap. Met a guy who was an engineer at Chevron in Richmond who raced a real 3.0 RSR and changed his oil after every weekend. "Oil is the cheapest insurance there is," he said.

Btw, Callas did a story for us on oil a few issues back, mentioning that he went with dealer-supplied Porsche genuine oil and filter and was glad he did when a customer's GT3 had an engine problem—making the point that you don't want to provide ANY reason to deny warranty coverage. Perhaps something to think about while considering Royal Purple, etc. if you're still under warranty...

Is there any reason to change the oil more or more frequently than the Porsche service intervals if you have no intention of keeping the car beyond the OEM warranty period?

This is DEAD wrong. One look at a Used Oil Analysis (like Blackstone) will easily show you the oil is standard A40 approved Mobil 0W40.
