991 Carrera S Purchase Questions
Hi everyone! I currently have a 2004 996 Anniversary Edition that I LOVE, however I'm really impulsive with cars and have decided to start looking for a 991 Carrera S. I might keep the Anniversary and Daily the 991.
I'm looking for some advice and clarification on model years for the 991.
-What is the general consensus on desirability 991.1 vs 991.2? What makes one better than the other?
-What is everyones opinion on the engines? Naturally Aspirated vs Turbo versions? And what years are the cutoffs for both?
- Are there any "Must Have" options?
- Is the S a huge power upgrade over the Regular? I haven't driven either yet.
- Are there any reliability issues that have started to appear on these?
It's all a bit confusing, and yes I've tried searching and still confused. I always do a little bit of modding to my cars so thinking the Turbo version might be a great opportunity, but I love the NA feel of my current X51 engine.
I'm looking for a Manual, coupe with under 40kish miles.
Thanks for the help in advance!

There are a gazillion threads on these issues. Main difference is all .2s are turbos now. Big difference in power between a .1 base and a .1 S, but many feel like the power in the base is adequate in the .2. S models also get bigger brakes and some other features are available, like SPASM, RWS, etc. that aren't available in the base model.

Can't go wrong with either. Your budget will dictate what car and options you get.

I just picked up a 991s a month ago and you're headed for a real joy coming from the 996 platform.
The sound of the NA 991 with the sport exhaust is awesome when you wind it up past 5k and the NA cars are getting fewer and harder to find from all manufacturers.
That being said, in my turbo I'm going faster with less noise to draw attention and a new .2 is appealing to me from the mod side, but I'd miss the NA sound.
I'm already thinking of looking for a .1 GTS with a manual but I scored a 2012.5 w/PDK & 56k on it for a lot less than those run.
The PDK is a fun option when I want a change of feel, just want to be lazy in traffic/DD, or use the launch control for a laugh.
Have fun finding what you like!
