Why I think PCCB is worth the upgrade on a 911T

I'm ordering a T for the wife (at least that's what I told her, what I didn't tell her is I plan on driving "her" car very often) with the following major options:
  • White w/ yellow sport tex T interior
  • PDK
  • Rear steer
  • Base 4 way sofas and
  • PCCB
I'm trying to decide if PCCB is worth the upgrade. Lighter unsprung, no dust, handling arguments aside, the price also comes into my consideration. PCCB's are a ~$9K option on a GT3/RS going from 380mm irons to 410mm Ceramics. But in the T, you upgrade from the base 330mm irons to the same 410mm PCCB for ~$8K. So bigger upgrade for less money.

PCCB and sunroof delete are my next two mandatory options on my next 911 if ever.

You're absolutely right on point.

Absolutely worth doing on a T.

If you're going to track said wife's car then yes. But if a daily like my new white T is I'd go basic brake setup. They are still great on track.

With the darker satin wheels you'll hardly notice brake dust...

If you are going to track your wife’s car, then no. The replacement cost is eye watering.

Not worth it.

Is it the brakes? Chicks love the yellow brakes.

I went on a few road trips with my wife in the 911 (w/PCCBs) - and she was behind the wheel for thousands of miles - she made PCCBs a hard requirement when we ordered her 2nd Porsche. She loves them. And I probably have whiplash.

You also pay the same money to upgrade a S or GTS, this despite the fact you're starting with better "big reds." Hard to call PCCB a bargain—especially when the same setup was $7400 in the GT4 if I recall correctly—but all the benefits you list plus the feel of them even around town make them worthwhile in my book.

And, if you ever turn up the wick in the car down the road, the brakes are ready. Price out a set of Brembos or another BBK and the PCCB begins to look like smart value. The only thing that would stop me is if I planned to track the car a lot, but even then I would consider doing it and then swapping to iron rotors and pads with the PCCB stuff on a shelf or in the classifieds. In the case of the latter, you might make money on PCCB...

For a PDK build like that, I would get an S, unless you really want yellow stripes on the interior.

I would not buy any iteration of a 911 without PCCBs.

When I bought my GTS, I thought long and hard about PCCB. It was costly, and in the end, decided against it.

It remains my only build regret.

Love my PCCBs.

But if I was going to track my car, I would go with the steel brakes. Ceramics are just too costly as a consumable for heavy track use.

Stone scoring on the barrels and chipped calipers both due to the minimal clearance. I'm out.

garfunkle 11-06-2018 07:36 AM

ditch rear steer for lighter weight

Exactly the same case for me. Now I am searching an option to buy PCCBs and install on my GTS but it seems cost is double than the initial order.
