Default Recommendations for winter tires for C4 GTS with center lock wheels

Hi guys,

My C4 GTS is arriving in November. It'll be my daily all year long in Toronto's suburbs. Can you guys make recommendations for winter tires for center lock wheels?

Thank you.

Turbo S winter CLs.
I think there are some limited other options like HRE, but if you are going to do that better to use the HRE as summer and OEM As winter.

Move to a climate where you don't need separate tires for winter. Just something to think about..

The GTS is a great daily driver. Probably the best all-around car in the 911 lineup.

He said tires, not wheels.

Michelin Alpins are what I have and are N spec for our cars. I have a 991.1 GTS.

Not sure there are any winter tires for the stock GTS CL wheel as they are a bit wider than the Turbo S winter wheels.

Some guys have just stretched to fit but I believe it exposes the inner 0.5” to damage if you are planning to use the stock GTS CL wheels and just swapping rubber.

I decided it was better to just have a second set of wheels. Think there were some threads if you do a search.

I ended up going with Porsche Turbo wheels - expensive option, but didn’t find much else available for CL wheels I liked.

Options are basically OZ wheels from tirerack or factory turbo S winter wheels both with alpins or sottozero.

You can mix sottozero 2 and 3 to get a factory size set of winters to fit your factory wheels.

What I cannot seem to find anywhere except Suncoast are Turbo S wheels with an 8.5 inch front rim. All of the Turbo S wheels I see have 9" fronts, but only the dedicated winter package has 8.5"..

Correct. However, the fronts are fine at 9in wide, the issue is the rears which are 12in on standard and you need narrower to run a matched set of winters.

I'm in Toronto as well. When and if I decide to drive my C4 GTS in snow, I will definitely invest in a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires. I will also ask the dealer to store my wheels as I don't have room for a spare set at home. The thought of even the dealer prying tires off the stock wheels and pushing new tires on twice a year is just terrible. Too many chances for scratches.

Good luck deciding.

The centerlock rear wheels from a 991.1 Turbo are 11.5” wide. You can fit the recommended 295 width winter tire on this wheel without issues. I mounted winter tires on my factory centerlocks, and ordered new custom wheels for my summers.

Perhaps you can can find a deal on a set of OE centerlocks from a 991.1 Turbo S.

Yeah, that might work. The Turbo S wheels I assume that you will be getting are 9" and 12" - and winter tires are definitely not common in the widths you'd want. Stretching 295's across the 12" rear wheels really is pushing it a bit - although have I've seen that done. 11.5" should work, but according to the Tequipment finder, the winter kit for your C4GTS w/CL wheels is:

Front axle: 8.5 J x 20 RO 51 with 245/35 R 20 91V M+S tire,
Rear axle: 11 J x 20 RO 59 with 295/30 R 20 97V M+S tires.

Yes, 11" rears. I hope they got the offsets right.

My dealership didn't want me to put 295's on my 11.5" rear wheels, although they really should fit. It didn't matter in the end since I would up getting a set of 11" rear wheels for the 295 tires.

Swapping wheels and tires is far simpler than mounting new rubber each season on the same set of wheels. Plus the continued availability of winter tires in these sizes is important, too.
