I have loved my PDK, but this morning, I was going to take my 2015 981 CS out for a drive and it had no reverse. I restarted the car and still no reverse. I had some room to move forward in my garage, so I tried Drive and it did indicate 1st gear. As I released the brake and started to move forward, there was a clang or a bang and I immediately stopped the car. I restarted it one more time and when I tried to engage a gear, a message popped up that said "Move gear lever to position P". This car only has 14,512 miles but is under warranty until Jan, 2021. I'll know more about my problem later this week.
As I've seen others post before me, these cars are getting too complex. My other car started having PASM problems at around 4000mi.

That sucks. I don't like it - seems like these cars are not aging well at all. Sure does make me worry.

Makes the 10 year 120k on .1 GT3 that much more attractive....won't cover PDK, but still. My engine on my M3 just blew last week, that's going to be $10-15k to fix. My engine on my .1 GT3 was replaced by Porsche under warranty at 39k miles, that was a $40k job. Note to self - always have warranty.

Sorry to hear about your problems! IMO Porsche quality is no where near where it use to be. Hopefully Porsche will replace your transmission free of charge under warranty. GL2U!

Literally exact same thing happened to me.. they found the actual reverse gear shredded up in the gear box. You'll get a brand new replacement transmission with it's own warranty on top of your CPO warranty. I'd also make sure you are not getting a refurbished PDK if possible.

My E92 is going in for a preventive service on the connecting rod bearings this Friday.

These cars are too complicated and barely built to be serviceable. That’s what scared the crap out of me about my 991.2 Turbo. I knew I would have a hard time keeping it long term - cars are basically disposable now. I can’t fathom how someone would deal with a PDK failure 20 years from now. Porsche is better than most about keeping old parts in circulation, but if the PDK is not rebuildable...that’s a problem.

The same way the PDK is put together, it should be serviceable. Sounds like it takes way too much time and money to fix, so they replace them instead of taking the time to fix. PDK failures are imminent, and yes, it will suck when one goes 20 years later. Should’ve been easier to work on.

Rod bearings, second time. First engine replaced at 25k miles, was totally stock. This one had upgraded rod bearings from Gintani, still blew anyway. 35k miles on the new engine, 10k since rod bearings. It was supercharged, but still....ridiculous. Never again BMW, never again...
