If you are out of warranty and bringing this car to the dealer for a PDK error, you are out of your mind. There are multiple shops that rebuild these units, and countless used PDK units that are available off the shelf for a 1/4-1/2 of the cost. The failure rate on these is very low, the forum exaggerates the data points because people come to complain (I would be too if my PDK failed!).

The answer is not a problem for the 996 and early 997 automatics. I do think the first year for the PDK was 09 though so stay clear of this year if you are worried about this thread. The 996/997 tips are bullet proof reliable and I drove one to 140K miles. I now own a 14 PDK and am not worried a bit and will see another 140K + miles from it I am sure!

Thanks Tampa991 and Steve C., you slowed my breathing down a bit having just bought a beautiful 2014. BTW, I'm in TampaBay as well, up in Land O Lakes. Ralph

Also one more note, this same discussion was occurring in the E9X forum regarding the DCT trans...members were very concerned about the replacement cost, and failure rate. DCT cost estimate were 15-20k by the dealer...now that the E9X M3 generation has matured, the reality has set in that A - failure rates were very low, with a higher percentage on supercharged engines, and B - replacement DCT trans costs dropped (you can buy a second hand unit now for 2,500). Of course there is a higher cost with the Porsche unit...but looking at the site used by my Indy for replacement parts (car-part.com, you can by a low mileage PDK for a 991.1 C2S for $5-10k. Breathe easy, have fun with the car.

I have a 2019 C4S I'm picking up next month and the discussion here was what confirmed my choice for the MT.

I received the PR package for the PEC delivery and it included a copy of the window sticker, it shows the transmission as German origin.

I'm of the same opinion of many here, I'm going to drive and enjoy, even in the rain, avoiding water in Florida can be difficult. (<water spray!)

made me look. Base 2017. transmission Country of origin, Germany. Engine country of origin Germany. I never thought of looking at that side of the window sticker until tonight. Previous 2014 failed pdk owner. Good odds mean nothing when you are the one with a failure. Porsche did pay all on the 14.

The difference is, a Lexus owner out of warranty will not have sleepless nights, a Porsche owner on the other hand will. Anyone who really thinks a Porsche is "tied" with Lexus for reliability hasn't owned very many Porsches out of warranty.

$25k for a transmission is beyond absurd. There's a reason Porsche is the most profitable car company in the world, case in point.

"I refuse to tip-toe through life to arrive safely at death." I sold my rock solid Lexus RC F because it was a snooze fest to drive. Life is too short to speculate about the future. Enjoy the drive.

Speculate? lol!

"snooze fest"? I couldn't disagree more and their new LC is wonderful to drive. Reminds me of the DB9 I had.

I know these cars are almost bulletproof, but I did shop for extended warranty for my car and will purchase
one this week. It’s for piece of mind for the upcoming years.

That's the only reason I bought one. I need that peace of mind to be able to really enjoy my car.

Not to change the subject but don't buy your extended warranty until your factory one is almost over, if applicable.

No question about it and I also heard they are the most profitable.

A friend of mine has a 2012 Cayenne with the V8 and at 60K miles, he needed a new transfer case. According to him, there was a series of years that had problems. I would be pi$$ed and so was he.
