Default Sound settings on Bose??

Thought there'd be some audiophiles out there who are living with the Bose system and discovered the best Sound setting for the various media types and sources. I'm starting with Bass +1 and Treble +2 and both Fader and Balance at neutral settings. Seems OK but the bass is pretty course on some tracks, particularly m4a input from an SD card. What have others discovered and how have you adjusted for XM, FM, AM, SD, etc.? Thanks, Doug

Sorry, not an audiophile so no strong opinion on settings, but interested in what others have to say.

OTOH, tell me more about listening to tunes from an SD card. See my thread farther down from yesterday. I'm not able to read 24gb from an SD card - only a fraction of the data is readable. Any suggestions?

Make sure surround sound is turned off. The tweeter upgrade thread has information wrt Bose's surround processing which is essentially non-existent and actually hurts more than helps.

Surround off, Linear mode on. Bass at most at +1, Treble 0. I also don't like the setting that adjusts volume based on speed.

Audiophiles and Bose are not terms that can co-exist in the same sentence......keep your expectations somewhat low!

^^ Agreed! I'm on this discovery path for sure, and just trying to make the best of it

I just copied my .m4a files from my iTunes library onto a (really old) 2G SD card and it was plug and play on the 2017 PCM.

I started testing with others settings, but for me I ended up with: Surround On, Linear Off, Bass -1, Treb +2, Fade to back 2. I listen to Sat radio mostly (Turbo, Lithium, Hair Nation, CNN) and Spotify. I may be in the minority on the surround, but I like it. I am wondering if these settings will change when my 991.2 comes in. I am going Bose on that one as well.

I assume you have a 991.1 so the best way to know is to set it up the exact same way and let us know if it sounds better (or worse) but it should sound better based on the changes.

I prefer linear and surround on. Source Carplay. I think this sounds the best IMO.

+1 I love my Bose (991.2) I've historically not liked surround in the car but Bose got it right this time. I'm in the minority with you!

eh I disagree. Lose a lot of fidelity by letting the Bose process the stereo audio and try to make it surround sound

for me I have AudioPilot on, linear on, surround off, and all other sound options set to 0

Surround and linear both off, bass and treble maxed out, fade 1 spot towards the front to make the sound stage sound more in front of you than behind. I only use BT audio or carplay so I let apple do the sound processing monkey business via apple music settings on my phone. I enjoy bass so it may not be for everyone but I enjoy the way 90s rap sounds with those settings, lol.

I gave up on the audio and literally just listen to my engine!
I took my 911 in for service last year and there was an issue with programming where it actually turned the sound off completely for anything having to do with the audio (phone and stereo). It was two months till I realized it didn't work!

Literally, the only time I have the sound on is when I'm talking (briefly) on the phone. Other than that, I'm listening to my 3.0L, flat-six with Soul Headers and Sport Cats.
