Whistling Sound at Speed, drivers side

yep, I was surprised as well when I first read about this, but that is def the case because the first film came off and once I pulled it off, whistling was gone. I had since went back and reinstalled the PPF, the whistling is back.....I read that all is takes is a little disruption in airflow and the noise will be gone (like others have said)
Havent messed with it yet, but probably will take a trip to home depot and see what i can come up with this weekend

2017 991.2S here, PPF installed on mirrors. No whistle before ppf, whistle after above 70mph. I have been trying to figure it out, and would have never thought about the ppf. Great thread!

Clearly you guys cheaped out on the 91038 OEM PPF active spoiler option, only $3782.
This is crazy, I wonder if this is any indication of how fine tuned these little details are on our cars that half a mil makes noticeable changes. Good luck on finding solutions!

Glad you also found a solution. Perhaps I will add film again later and try this cabinet bumper trick.

For those of you that had this issue, what brand of film did you have? Perhaps we can see if it is all film or just a particular brand. I have suntek ultra.

What if you guys put the stickers or tape on the bottom? Does that still work? At least you wouldnt have to look at it.
As a data point, i have sport design mirrors ppf'ed in 3 spots. No whistle.

So my installer said they've heard of this, but only with some cars (I guess I'm lucky). The only guaranteed fix he knew of was to remove it from the mirror. Not eager to do that yet.
I talked to my service adviser and she talked to their rep from Porsche (who happened to be in there that day while they had my car) and he said he's heard of this a bunch and there's nothing they can do about it (not surprisingly).
I'd be interested to see a pic of Hurricane's top of the mirror to see how his looks and where the line for the PPF is. I can post a pic of mine tomorrow.
I have Xpel Ultimate, though I think it matters not.

i am about to have my new 2018 c2s ppf'ed with xpel.... so does everyone with ppf on the mirrors have the same whistling? is there anything that can be done with the fitment of the film to prevent this?

Some with ppf on mirrors have it , some don’t. It’s a mystery as to what causes it and you won’t know until after it’s on if you have it, but you can always remove it if it’s there.
