Here's what winter driving can do.....

A late model 911, of which many thousands are made, will depreciate dramatically over time no matter what you do with it.
No one is making money on these mass produced cars.
It’s too bad that many are not enjoying them, overburdened with some need to keep them pristine for the next owner. Your savings on the next transaction will be in the hundreds of dollars.

These "melting" turbos will cost Porsche a fortune going forward...

Drifting
I took my 997TT in for a spark plug/coil job a couple weeks ago and the shop recommended I replace the turbos as well. The car was driven in New England winters and the bolts were either rusted to dust or totally seized into the flanges in many spots. The actuators were rusty but functional because I have greased them a couple times. The turbos seemed to work fine while attached, but the issue was that taking them off to get access for the service would probably break them, and there was no guarantee the shop could clean it all up enough to salvage them. Lesson learned for me. At least with the replacements and cleaning it should be minty fresh under there when I get it back.

This thread raised an interesting question.
I don't expect my 991.2 to experience enough corrosion damage during four winters of regular use to adversely affect its trade-in/resale value. This includes the turbos. If I am wrong, and it does, it will be my last new Porsche.
I will be 78 when the time comes to make a decision about the 991.2 replacement and I will not be willing to purchase a $100k-plus, rapidly depreciating anyway, new car that I cannot even drive and enjoy on a year-round basis . If the replacement has to sit-out much of the winter anyway, it will be a vintage sports car. It will probably not depreciate, and may even appreciate.

Montreal uses a pile of salt/chemical if I’m not mistaken.
I’m still planning to run mine in the winter. No chemicals but sand and rock chips. If my turbos have issues, Porsche can certainly replace them for me before my warranty is up.
Curious why we don’t hear about this with actual Turbo cars....know more than a few that get winter driven as well.

The list price appears to be around $4127 each. Ouch!

Half you guys don't even read the thread. That was an EXAMPLE of a rusted out part off a truck I own that runs an exposed engine in the winter. That unit is not off a Porsche....Sheesh.
