Not to hijack the thread, but is there anything to look for when getting calipers powder coated? I’m thinking of getting my mine powdercoated in red or yellow.

^ Count me in as another fan of the standard Macan. Didn't think I was gonna like it, but was pleasantly surprised. Sure, the V6 is a nicer engine, but the handling of the standard Macan is noticeably nicer...and the few times I thought it was pokey on LA freeways, I'd look down and see 93 on the speedometer...uphill. Not all that pokey. The one I drove was a stripper, on the base 18s (which are staggered!!!), and the ride/handling compromise was fantastic. Also like that, when you open the hood, there is a TON of space in there. Looks like you could have the turbocharger out in about five minutes while eating a burrito...and everything looks very accessible.

Frankly, if they made a sporting 4-pot Macan with a 6MT, I might not be driving a 911. Would fit my life better right now, in fact...

I also agree. I drove a Base Macan as a loaner when my 911 was in for service. It didn't suck for me.

Wouldn't surprise me if the caliper paint quality has changed over the years, and some aggressive braking and the heat generated has changed the paint colour.

either disassemble them yourself, or find someone who specializes in brakes and is competent in reassembling them. Don't let them get coated without disassembling. The seals and dust boots can handle the heat, but its the other prep that can mess things up (chemical or abrasive stripping). Standard powder holds up well to anything short of a dedicated race car and colors are limitless.

I'm on my second 991.2 and I'm having the same issue with the caliper paint fading. The quality of the finishing is just plain bad and I'm thinking on painting them. On the first car, the caliper bolts were even rusted. Just use soap and water for cleaning my car.... no strong products for cleaning the wheels.

My wife's Cayenne Hybrid has four times more mileage and the caliper paint (acid green) still looks like new.

Same, my base 991.2 calipers are looking very sad indeed. I may get them painted black at some point or....I'll just stop looking at them and worry about something else.

I had a base Macan prior to my Macan GTS, and the base car (at least with the ~$10k of options I had) was a nice rig for sure. My only complaints were I felt the brakes weren't strong enough (even though they are) and the noise wasn't super as it was just a 4-pot but I liked the PDK barks when it upshifted harshly. I can feel the extra weight in the nose of the GTS Macan, and even though the GTS handles better overall, the base Macan feels more agile and more ready to turn in. It's one of my favorite aspects of the base model. Base model Macan owners....rejoice!

I got my dealer to take care of it and they are perfect 35,000 kms (18 months) later.

I think that the problem with my base 991.2 calipers is that they are not painted at all.....

As stated above, the calipers on the base Carrera are not painted and look crappy on day1. I had mine stripped, cleaned and painted several months ago by a guy who only does brake refinishing on high end cars. They look amazing and are holding up great.

I guess a $90K something car doesn't get a decent finish. Need to spend over $100K!! Geez.

Any Honda or Toyota has better finishes. Disappointing what Porsche skimp$ on!

Calipers can take on a decidedly faded, somewhat pinkish tone when the clear coat fails... Was (still is) a pretty common problem on 996 Turbos.

A quick re-coat with a high temperature engine clear coat usually brings them back to the correct color, but obviously if you can get Porsche to just replace them under warranty that's the way to go!
