Default Question for 991 MT drivers

I own a 2015 991.1 GTS. This is my 3rd 991, but the first one that exhibits a slight clunk sound when putting the car into 1st gear at a standstill. I brought this up to my local dealer and I was told that this is a "normal operating condition".
What they tell me is that the noise is caused by "the rotational momentum of the gearset when clutch is pushed and transmission is put in gear. All rotating gears are forced to come to a stop. One way reduce this is to wait a few seconds after clutch pedal is pushed, before putting into gear. This will allow the gears to lose momentum and reduce noise. May notice more when trans fluid is warmed up due to less fluid drag on gear set."

Like I said, I am on my 3rd 991, all MT cars. I never experienced this with the previous 2 cars.

Anyone having the same experience as I am having, or any thoughts, comments?

Thanks for looking.

I had a 2016 Cayman S and now a 2017 CS, both with MT. Neither exhibit what your describing.

Yes I know the clunk. 2013 Carrera would do it at times. I think it may be related to momentum in the driveshafts but I can't put my finger on it. I know there have been threats on this previously.

If you are at and standstill and have the clutch disengaged, nothing from the input shaft, thru the gearbox, thru the diff to the wheels is moving. Youre are ae a STANDSTILL. Now if you tried to engage first before coming the a full stop, then you are trying to make a synchronized downshift to first. There you might get a clunk.

I experienced this with my ‘13 C2S, but from the 991.2s I’ve driven it seems they may have sorted the issue with the refresh.

I recently acquired a 991.1 gts manual and have noticed the slight clunk at stop and putting it into first gear. I perceived this as normal for this car, because it certainly performs great once in motion.

I dont think our cars like standing still, so we should just drive them as fast as we can to keep them happy.

I get a barely audible, but normal sounding thunk when putting it in 1st gear at a standstill. (991.2) Doesn't concern me.

I've had MTs in the .1 and .2. I never heard the clunck in either, but suspect it's because I'm at a complete standstill/rest -as in waiting for a light to turn before putting it in gear. The SA's explanation certainly seems plausible.

I know the clutch plate is different on the .2 GTS as well, FWIW.

From the neutral gate, I usually tickle 2nd gear prior to selecting 1st. Just a slight touch of 2nd (not fully engaging) seems to avoid any drama of getting smoothly into 1st.

2013 C2s - yes mine has a slight clunk....

I attribute it to the character... just like the ignition stumble between 2-3k...
