Default Choosing a 991...dilemma

Looking at two very similar 991s. Both have very similar $130K builds. PDCC, sport exhaust, premium plus etc. Very similar. Main diff is S vs. 4S and mileage.

Which would you choose?

2014 S ($75K)
black on beige
21k miles
3 months of original warranty left

2013 4S ($77K)
black on black
29k miles
8 months of CPO left

I would choose the 2014 mainly because you can get an extended warranty for less than a car coming out of a CPO.

Unless you must have AWD......

Still do a PPI no matter what you choose.

Need more info please -

- How many owners
- Dealer or private sales?
- Books and maintenance?
- Options similar (beyond the RWD/AWD decision) ?
- Your preference for RWD/ AWD?

In general I would go with lower miles and try to negotiate a CPO...

The fact you're even considering an older car with more miles tells me those wider hips and AWD are important to you.

PPI is a must...

Oh by the way, ever owned a black car before?

both private party sales

I live in Los Angeles, AWD is not very important to me, but it's nice to have.

I plan to keep the car for 3-4 years then sell. I'm also thinking the 4S with black interior would be easier to sell than the S with beige interior. Not sure of demand on beige interiors.

Another consideration is the beige interior of the '14 S. You should do a Google search about the class action lawsuit.

LOL, I just read about the suit. It sounds like the glare came from a beige dash, the one I am looking at has beige seats but a black dashboard and console. Two tone.

Don't forget you have an option C... to keep looking. It's not unusual for it to take a while to find the right car. It sounds like a lower miles black interior S or 4S with warranty would be best for you... and neither is these is completely that.

For the price point/miles/years you are looking at, I'd think you could find a freshly CPO'ed car at a dealer... after some reasonable negotiation. This would not only get you 2 year of warranty but also all services coming due taken care of and possibly fresh tires. I don't know if you've priced 4-year service cost on these but it can be substantial. Speaking of tires, at the age of these cars tire replacement will be desirable soon if they are original due to hardening from age and heat cycling,

That said, if one of these really has most everything you want and you are tired of looking, I could see going for one of them. (If it wasn't for the beige interior I think the S would have won my vote).

Thanks StormRune, you are like Scully from the X-Files. The voice of reason.

You're pretty spot on about the S. If it had a black interior it would be perfect, I do like the beige though since it's different. Just worried about resell on it...and keeping it clean.

Well... I've never been compared to Scully before... but thanks!

I see you said the car has a black dash so at least that takes care of the reflectivity issue. The two-tone look is pretty nice too.

Yeah, I've always hated dealing with keeping light colored interiors clean too and tend to avoid them. The problem with the tan in our Lexus's seating is it picks up the blue from our jeans. While I manage to keep cleaning most of the blue back off with occasional effort, they are no longer perfectly tan either. I guess I could quit wearing jeans... but hey... I'm in Texas.

I live in SoCal too. Trust me, you don’t need AWD. These cars have so much traction with just RWD you won’t think twice.
