Tires
' My 2012.5 CS2 is due for tires. Are Michelin PS4 still "cats moew" or are there some equally good tires that are cheaper? It's not that i can't afford PS4's, just wondering? I drive for pleasure most of time(freeway) and like a quiet soft ride (to crank the Burmester) . Once in a while I like to punch it and try the twisties.
Any suggestions on a possible alternative and no disappointments???

Try to find some 245/35 and 305/30 MPSS. They are on closeout, and you may find them for less money than the newest PS4.

I have put 11,000 miles on my PS4S now (non N-Spec....got them before there was an N-Spec) and they are AWESOME in wet and dry and have great wear life too. I have over half the tread life on my rears still after 11,000 miles of driving. I don't track my car, but I don't drive like I'm driving Miss Daisy around town either.
They are 300 treadwear rated. 30,000 mile warranty if square setup, 15,000 if staggered (which ours are) since you can't rotate them. But like I said, I'm going to probably get close to 25,000 on rears before hitting the wear bars.

MPSC2, they're great mate Woof! (If 4S is the cats meow, then the Cup 2 is the big Dog ) LOL The key to getting something like this to last is great alignment. Stock alignment will always feather and chop out high performance tyres.
GTS has 20 x 9 and 20 x 12. So these are the N1 Spec, identical to GT3.
I like to track and drive hard. So I am having a lot of Elephant racing adjustable bars fitted, to get a far superior alignment. and thus, I get 15,000 km's out of Cup 2's.

With a Carrera either the base, S or GTS there really is no need for any more grip on the road then the car, especially on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, already has. Why go for the track oriented Cup tires? There’s no need for road driving, even if you drive it like you stole it. I would “stick” with the 4S.

I have a friend that wanted Cup 2 for his Porsche. The Michelin rep said No, you should try these new 4S. My friend was not shopping for 4S, but the salesman insisted.
So he put the 4S on and he went to the track. It took 8 minutes for the 4S to fail. They over heated and delaminated. The rep was so horrified that he basically forced my friend to have the 4S, that they provided him a set of Cup 2 free of charge.
If you drive miss daisy, then 4S is perfect for you and the street. I drive it like I stole it and I can personally tell you the Pirelli are garbage. Hated them from day one. I have run the Cup 2 on the front for months. But I did a few skid pan days to destroy the rears. That's the contempt I felt for the pirrelli. So now fresh Cup 2 ready for the track.
I am tired of hearing people say, you don't need better tyres and you don't need better brakes. You may not need that, but I boiled the Fluid and ran out of brakes on my very first country/canyon run.
I am having Pagid Yelllow RSL 29 fitted next week and Castrol SRF. Yes they will squeal. But hell, my stock ones squeal, so I don't care.

If you’re getting tired maybe you should get some sleep. ;-)
I explicitly wrote “road driving” not “track driving”. If you want to drive on a public road like you would drive on a track that’s your choice, and if you want to upgrade your tires, brakes, fluid for that type of “road driving”, good for you. That doesn’t mean TS has to go down that same path.
I have got my EU racing license, I do drive (usually a different car than my GTS) on track, and I drive my GTS hard on public roads, but nowhere near the way I would drive it on a track. But that’s just me.
The cups can be a fine road tire. But there not for everyone, every type of driving/climate.

These cars do have limits. The thing with the GTS is, they tried to slot it below a GT3. I understand why. But GT3 has 460 Nm torque. GTS 550 Nm Torque. A few mods like I have and a Cobb tune, and the GTS is way more powerful and faster than a GT3, but it does not have the suspension or brakes of a GT3.
So I have purchased all of the Elephant racing bars and GT3 anti-sway bars to make my car safe. I can see me getting the 380 mm Brembo GT-R in the near future as well.
I cancelled my GT3, as I saw way more potential in the GTS. I don't want to build a GT3, rather a turbo, 911-R with PDK. That is my ultimate 911. Each to his own. There are many ways to configure a 911.
By the way, some countries its Tire and some its Tyre. Just like we say Colour and Americans say Color.
Also agreed, Cup 2 is not for everyone. When you know the difference between understeer and oversteer, cold cup 2 are fun, not dangerous.

MPSS's are more than MPS4's. No dice on close out pricing. Oh well, PS4 is what I'll get then! 255's on the front? will they work with a 8mm spacer too? I likes me some more meat!

Sounds like a fine car you’ve got 4.0. Good to hear you’re enjoying it to the max.
Reading about you’re tuning I can better understand were you’re coming from.
I drive my track car (not the GTS) to and from the track (Zandvoort, Spa).
The car is on semi slicks. Works fine, even when it rains a bit, just have to watch out for standing water.

I run SC2s on the street, too. My favorite tire. Except when it rains, so I will go back to MPSS for the rainy season (I'd go with MP4S but already have good MPSS on OEM wheels sitting in the garage).
