Is the new Cayman 718 GTS faster than my 18' C4S
 

Motortrend recently did a review on the 4 cylinder Cayman 718 GTS. The 0-60 time was stated at 3.9 seconds.
Isn't this faster than the current year 911 S?

That's pretty quick! Why did I spend 40k more on a 911 C4S again? :)

Slower than a Cayman GTS?

Your car will do better than 3.9 0-60 and overall straight line acceleration. Maybe faster on certain certain tracks and windy roads.

FWIW, my 991.1 C4S is in the shop this week and I got a 718 Cayman (base) PDK as a loaner. Holy crap that thing is fast. It's got 100 fewer horses than my C4S (300 vs 400) but I'm sure it's quicker to 60 than my car. It's like a little Go-Kart! I was amazed.

Car and Driver tested the 991.2 C4S from 0-60 at 3.2 seconds.

Car & Driver (my usual go-to for 0-60 numbers since Porsche is crazy conservative with performance numbers) doesn't have test numbers for the new Cayman GTS yet.

However, Porsche numbers, to compare:
Cayman GTS 0-60 4.4 sec (3.9 sec PDK)
911S 0-60 4.0 sec (3.8 sec PDK)

So definitely sleep well tonight! (Although with PDK they appear to be VERY close!)

The Porsche NA sales of the 718 line of cars, which includes the Cayman, has sucked for the longest time. https://press.porsche.com/prod/press...sseinformation

They have needed to come up with something to light a fire under those sales figures, IMO. Boosting performance is one way to do that and it may be they've taken that path. Regardless of the questions, like yours, it may raise among (non GT) 911 owners.

I bet on a short or intermediate track, the Cayman is faster due to better handling. Longer tracks the HP advantage of the 4S should compensate.

In my 991.2 C2S I have trouble getting all that low-end power to stick from a stop or low speeds on some smoother asphalt, so your AWD will launch far better than any RWD giving you better results in the 0-60 standing start numbers regardless of the fact it out-powers the Cayman in HP/weight ratio too.

Plus that rear on your C4S is $40k more gorgeous than any Cayman's.

Its not just about speed. Simply, your C4S is a way nicer car. It's unique, more comfortable, versatile, roomy inside, and MUCH better looking. Just my opinion!!

0-60 is the worst performance metric. I guess unless you're drag racing all the time. But I'd get tired of 0-60 launches after a while, even in a Tesla or 911 Turbo. You will be faster driving a 911 on the track, and it's a much cooler car :rockon:

It won't be faster than a C4S, but it'll probably feel faster, and can surely give it a run on some tracks. I had a loaner 718 Boxster S, and it in some mags it puts up nearly identical times to the 991.2 base, though to me the 718 just felt faster. The whole package is more aggressive and sprightly, be it straight line or on curves. The 911's performance hierarchy really shows up when REALLY pushing the cars, as it'll grip better, and become more composed at high-intensity driving. The Cayman's/Boxster's feel more fun and visceral in normal to reasonable enthusiastic driving, which is most of the time.

If it wasn't for that horrendous monotonous 4 cylinder burp and lack of a powerband that begs to be revved, I would have been all over a 718 Cayman GTS. The 981 Cayman GTS to me is one of the best sports cars of all time, instant classic. I just couldn't resist the 911 experience.

Note according to Motortend the 991.1 S is faster than the 718 S around Mazda Raceway (watching best driver car)
I too drove a 718 Cayman loaner and thought it felt way faster - its because of the Torque

Now the 718 GTS will be faster than the 991.1 S for sure around a race track... most likely right with the 991.2 S on Lap TImes.
