Dashcam captures Porsche GTS break-in
Genius in action! This is at the Domain in Austin, a mixed high-end shopping/apartment area.
Is this anyone on here? Nice demo of the benefits of a live-streaming dashcam. While it didn't save the stuff, at least some justice may come of it. I'll post if I hear the guy gets busted.
This appears to be a nice camera that uses LTE that I hadn't heard about: https://owlcam.com/pages/technical-specifications. $349. First year of LTE free, $99/year afterwards. Not that bad.

That is terrible, but why would you leave your $600 radar detector in plain sight. Just an invitation to be broken into. Thieves don't go to poor neighborhoods to steal.

Nice. I go to the Domain a lot, but dont put the Porsche in the garages over there. Thats a good add for a cam though.
Leaving your detector out even in a gated garage is very risky. Lots of those places are gated so cars dont get in, but people access is different. Not to mention the tail gate move that happens.

Owlcam is a new product and it's really very slick. Motion activated front/rear image sensors, cloud storage, and nicely designed hardware. I've been looking at getting one.

How long does the built in battery work OR how long can it last via ODB connector before it nukes the car battery?

How is Owl Powered? Owl plugs into the cars OBD2 diagnostic port.
I don't know even know where that is how how to send a wire to it, but I am interested in buying one.

It's a bit unfortunate for 991.1 owners that the ODB-II Port is their power-source choice since it sits behind the fuse box cover on the drivers side (not so on the 991.2 where it sits facing downward above your left foot). You'd have to leave the door off for a straight hookup and it would stick out a bit into the footwell. There is a 90 OBD extension you can get that would reduce the footwell impact, but I still don't think you could get the door back on the box. I guess you could just cut a hole in it. A replacement plastic cover for later probably isn't too many $$$s.

Right you are. You'd think I'd have remembered that based upon my hooking up my radar detector and dashcam there! I was confusing it with my prior 991.1 where it was under the cover. I've edited my prior post accordingly.
