Having a Blast in Stuttgart
As promised, some updates. We're on the way home tomorrow morning, but here are some highlights. Will keep the non-Porsche stuff short, but some of you may be interested in this route.
Milan- Just eat, visit the Doumo and the Last Supper at a minimum. We rented a Fiat originally and thankfully, they only had an Alfa Romeo Guilia for us. Diesel 6 speed, loved it for the Italian roads.
Lake Como- Just eat, visit, Villa Carlotta, Mount Bisbino and Sighignola by car. Great, classic, hair raising Italian driving. Take the water ferries to Bellagio and hundreds of other places. Rent a boat if you have time...so much to do. Oh, and did I say eat?
Stuttgart- we did the Porsche factory tour in Zuffenhausen and can understand why Porsches are expensive. It is a big, multi-story factory in the middle of a city. Work is not fast on the floor. We saw a bit of engine assembly (you really can't see much), interior leather saddlery and a few floors of final assembly. They don't let you see the engine wedding to the car. Kind of cool to see a car like yours on the line. Lots of new 911s running around the factory. Ts, Targas, Cabs, Turbos. Don't think I saw a base.
Porsche Museum was nice, we didn't have much time, but real Porsche historians will enjoy it. Allow a few hours.
Porsche Drive- rented a 911 4GTS for 24 hours. Cost was 359 Euro with your PCA membership card with 500 kms included. So worth it. Go about 20 mins south of Stuttgart where the A-Bahn speed limit goes away. All I can say it whoa...did I have a great time. My first priority was not to orphan the kids, so not doing anything stupid was paramount. Nevertheless, in late Friday eve traffic, 145mph was possible, with 120mph an easy cruising speed. So cool. Car was rock solid. Someone pulled into my lane while I was doing 130, the brakes were amazing. The GTS with PDK is just a rocket, love that car. Did a lot of back road driving too, just fun as can be.
Stones- Amazing. This concert started the planning for the entire trip. Best Stones concert I've been to. They sound better than ever and Jagger still can move at 75. Does in surprise anyone they've been around as long as the 911?
Sorry for the long post, but though some of you may like the content.
Alfa Romeo Guilia from our B&B parking lot overlooking Lake Como
Rented 911 4GTS on the Porscheplatz
Poor 911 gets no attention when parked next to a hot Italian in Stuttgart
Sport seat- Comfy but hard to get out of
Castle Tour Day-
They were amazing
More details and pics coming, but we're in Stuttgart, after a week in Milan and Lake Como. We did a ton of driving around Milan and Lake Como in a Alfa Romeo Guilia diesel 6 spd. Great car, good power, handling and amazing fuel economy.
Today we did the Porsche Factory Tour, Porsche Museum and picked up a 911 4GTS for a 24 hour rental. Did some city driving this afternoon, and we just returned from an A-Bahn blast in Friday eve traffic, were I am not ashamed to say I didn't exceed 150 mph. Fast enough for my chicken behind, never, ever drove near that fast.
I have a new respect for the 4GTS and PDK. It is a just a rocket.
Country driving and some castle tours south of Stuttgart tomorrow and the Rolling Stones tomorrow night.
Highly recommend a few days in this city. So fun.

Wow! Sounds like a great trip!
The Mercedes museum and the museum in the V8 hotel next door are worth a visit.

That's my old stomping ground! Lived around that area for a few years. Amazing empty twisty driving roads everywhere. Just loved it.
