991.2 active aero front vents
Anyone know how these work? I can't find any details online. I did find that the spoiler deploys to aid in air delivery to the engine bay and not just for downforce reasons.
I was washing the car and noted the front radiator fins appear to have play, where they can turn down. On closer examination, there is a bar between them in the center with a mechanism to close the vents.

Since I always drive in Sport mode, except when I very rarely forget to select it on start-up, this indicates that my flaps are always open. I wonder if this means that my coolant and oil warm-up is somewhat delayed. Perhaps I should not select Sport until after warm-up.

I believe that sport mode (at least in the 991.1) opens a changeover valve for oil to go to the water-to-oil radiator (aka oil cooler) that is mounted above the engine. The engine will get to 190 degree operating temp pretty fast in any mode. The effect of the cooler can really be seen once cruising. Place it in sport mode from non sport and the oil temp drops about 20 degrees fast.

Not sure about 911s, but boxster front radiator fans turned on in sports mode. It would delay warm up and I’d always use normal mode on start up.
I’m still confused because I can’t see the vents while driving and they’ve open when I look at them stopped. Maybe they use same parts, but they are only active on the turbo?
How can I actually see mine in closed state on a C4S?

The loaner macan I got has active front vents and they’re closed when you’re parked. Confused why it isnt like that on a 911. Would make more sense to me to only open when more cooling is needed.

Thats correct, no fins. When you cold start and switch the car into Sport immediately it does not open the exhaust valves in the muffle until the car is up to temp.
