How are you judged at a Concourse? Help needed...
As part of the Porsche's 70th Anniversary celebration, the local PCA chapter in Houston is hosting a Concours D'elegance at the West Houston dealership. I signed up looking forward to show my Carrera T.
After 5 hours of washing and detailing the car, I think it looks perfect. Then again, I do the same thing every weekend, hahaha.
Since I have never been in a Concours, I have no idea if there is anything in particular I should take care of. I even cleaned the inside of the wheel wells, raised the spoiler to clean and detail the plastic bits, as well as inside the frunk, rear lid, door jambs, under the floor mats, etc. I removed everything except the user's manual from the glove box and the frunk. I detailed the wheels and put tire dressing on the tires.
Anything else you may suggest I may be missing?
Thanks!

After you are in your designated spot, make sure you wipe down all the pedals. Pay attention to any dust on the instrument cluster, top of the steering column, and clean the backside of the steering wheel. I've had points deducted in these areas. Beautiful car and I hope you do well!

You know, that's what I love about these cars. When they are detailed for the prom, they are literally pieces of art. It does not matter what generation of Porsche they are, they all look great. When they have bugs splattered on the bumpers, windshields, and mud on the quarters, they are what they were meant to be

Funny you should say that... for a moment I thought it may be fun to show up with the car completely soiled, full of bugs on the front and windshield after a long drive, but immaculate inside. Like Porsche showed the T in all the promo videos.

I think I'm going to take the kids up to PNH around 1p - I've got Saturday kid practices (aka Daddy duty) from 10-12p. I may try and sneak away to PWH to see what's there 9a or so...I only live a few min away.
cheers!

I haven't done a concours since the late 90's and it was with my old '85 Carrera, but if it is a serious concours, get a box of q-tips and stick them everywhere they will fit... thinking my car was spotless, I was amazed by where they checked and the dirt they found, behind door handles, under wipers, etc. Also, clean the windows with waded up black and white news paper to avoid any streaking or haze.

I'm going to my first PCA concours event next weekend (just to get in) and really can't wait to see the range of Porsches from the past 70 years.

"Did you know your jack screw has dirty grease in it?" said one concours judge while inspecting my 914 during the 1995 Porsche Parade Concours.
"What's the difference between clean grease and dirty grease?" a college-aged me asked, earnestly.
The concours judge became visibly excited.
"Well, if you take a finger and run it along the screw and then wipe it off in the grass, you can tell. If the lines in your fingers [the ones that make fingerprints] remain dirty, it's dirty grease. If they come clean, it's clean grease."
I stared, in silence.
And didn't win. And didn't mind.

Wow! There's me thinking I have a tendency to OCD when cleaning my car.
Reading this thread, I'm nowhere close!
If I ever go to a concours event, it will definitely be as a spectator, rather than a participant.
