And do not put any gloss on tires. Scrub them with Dawn, then scrub them again. They don't mind if there is some dirt from driving, but better not be anything applied by you . I'm OCD and now I will stop because my fingers will get tired typing. Some folks plan on up to 40 hours of work to prepare for concours with picky judges.

Thanks. Just picked up a box of Q tips and will check some of those areas.

Wow, that document is both interesting, funny and scary! Lots of great info! Thank you!

The concours judge became visibly excited.

"Well, if you take a finger and run it along the screw and then wipe it off in the grass, you can tell. If the lines in your fingers [the ones that make fingerprints] remain dirty, it's dirty grease. If they come clean, it's clean grease."

I stared, in silence.

And didn't win. And didn't mind.

Great story Pete! I can only imagine. On the document shared by _RS_ the author talks about cleaning the grease from the door mechanism (joint and locking part) which I thought was a little over the top, but your story jut confirmed that. Gotta be more than a little OCD to win I guess... thanks for sharing!

Don't forget to clean the exhaust tips once you park at the event. I lost by one point at a BMWCCA Concours with my e30 M3 because I didn't clean the exhaust after I drove to the event.

PCA? They will probably let you show it with your modified badge. Shouldn't be too many points off.

Like Stout...and related to my ‘87 Carrera....the judge pointed to the driver seatbelt and a tiny, tiny area where the fabric had frayed. He asked me “what is that?" I answered “a small piece of thread” to which he replied “to me that’s a ball of yarn.”

Fwiw, some folks even trailer their cars in. Kooky.

Good luck and and have fun!

How many miles do you have to drive to get to the event?

I stopped doing Concours back in about 2006. Won a few. Took about 40 hours of prep. Enjoy that chapter. Now I'd rather be doing a road trip.

Did you remember to clean your vanity mirrors? They love to nail that one.

Well done! I wish I could have made it to the event, but I’m out of town this week.
