What would you identify this noise as?

Too short of a clip.
I assume cold start? How long was it sitting? Temperature? What oil? |
Sounds like rod knock. Hopefully that's not the case.

Exhaust leak?
Stock exhaust or something else? |

I assume cold start? No. Parked after 30 minute drive. Sat for 30 minutes, re-start. How long was it sitting? 30 minutes Temperature? 85F ambient, coolant and oil temps just under 200F at shut down, before restarting What oil? whatever came in the car and what Porsche puts back in when I bring it in for the maintenance intervals |
This problem has existed since before the 10K mile mark. Noted to Porsche multiple times (40k on engine now). Noise ONLY happens at start up and quickly goes away. Cold start vs. hot restart doesn't matter. I can go 4 to 6 weeks with it never doing this. Or, it can do it 3 times in the same day. I have numerous video clips of the same. And there have been times when I wasn't recording and it did this.
Once running, engine sounds and runs normal. Porsche has it now for its 40k service, along with the clip I sent above. My hypothesis is that it is a lifter bleeding down (then clattering while it pumps back up) and is dependent upon where the engine stops, as to which lifter is trying to hold a valve open. Would possibly explain why it is so sporadic. |
