Fast forward Time - Your 991.2 Engine is Tired

Just thinking about years from now when its time to drop the engine for a rebuild after xxxxx miles and she is getting tired.. What are we going to do? Maybe get it up to 525-550 hp but in sleeper fashion..... nothing radical or visual

Increase displacement perhaps to 3.2 L?
Use GTS turbos?
Titanium connecting rods?
Lighter valve train?
Different cams?
Lighter pistons?
IPD intake?
Tune made for all of the above?

My goals would be a. Maintain same reliability b. No visual changes c. Not require a different tranny d. 125-150 more hp. You engine guys might have some thoughts here. Either way its going to be fun getting there and then fun doing it.

Tune and bigger turbos would do it.

This. Will be really interesting to look back ten years from now.

Buy a new 911

xxxxx miles is going to be a large number, unless you are planning on racing your car. Absent a defect in the engine, you will need to add another x to your string before the engine gives up.

Drop an electric motor in your car:D

I plan on chipping my car after my warranty has ended. i figure by then there will be a reliable chip with a good track record history for me to feel safe in using

This is like asking a new groom what he's going to do when his bride hits menopause in "x" number of years. Try to hot-rod her? Get something new? How much wear and tear is on the rest of the chassis? Can you afford to trade up? Or has it become "just right" and works pretty good as it is - just needs a little touch-up? Maybe when all those years pile up YOU won't need all that horsepower, either and are content to cruise....lol.

Not nearly the same. Upgrading a Porsche would be far far cheaper.

Intercooler and tune should satisfy your power goal. With bigger turbos and FBO, they are at 600+ whp on a base 991.2 now.

I’m sure there are. But I still want to wait and have peace of mind, after my warranty is done, to see which options seem to be most reliable.

You’re link is interesting thanks. But it seams the most aggressive stage three upgrade for standard 911 and 911 GTS both maxes out at 575 hp. They must feel that 575hp is max the motor can handle safely for the engines. Hopefully in a couple years and with more owner data, We’ll know more clearly if this is the case, and hopefully I will be able to pick the best chip to upgrade my 911 with

Any sense for how are these engines holding up compared to the 9A1 in the 997.2/991.1? The 9A1 was a huge improvement over the M97 - but still had issues with oil consumption and occasionally bore scoring especially in the 3.8. I hope the thicker cylinder wall in the 3.0 will help avoid the bore scoring.. and I guess Porsche also did away with the Alusil liner to hopefully improve oil consumption.

So could you bore the cylinder out to get a little more cubes vs. new liners? Then add some JE pistons and Pauter titanium rods to lower the weight with the GTS turbos and it would wind up in a hurry plus be stronger.
