Oil Change ?
 

Bought my 2017 Cab S new in 12/17 with 10 miles on it. Car now has ~ 400 miles on it and I'm getting oil change notice upon start up. Obviously dealer never preformed on prior to deliver. Can I ignore the "1yr warning" and drive it to 5K or should I get one now? thx

Looks like, based upon your average of 80 miles a month!, you are going to be a once a year oil change type owner. I say change it out now and get on the once a year program. You'll have fresh oil for the summer when you drive it most, i hope.

I would bring it to the dealer for a reset. Its not a year old and only 400 miles. Wait for the year or 5K whichever comes first for the oil change.

Me personally, I always change the oil @ the first 500 mile mark to purge any contaminants left behind during manufacturing.

I'm constantly reading about the fear of going to long before an oil change. I would like to hear from those that have had major problems with their engines because of not going by the rules. Sludge would be the biggest fear but with synthetics I think you would really have to abuse the engine and possibly going many thousands beyond needed change. I have owned many cars but never any that were high mileage when I replaced them. I changed my own oil for many decades and will be the first to admit it that I over did it on changing too soon. I guess i'm just sick and tired of being obsessive. The issues I've dealt with have been odd things that you would never expect. Sort of like owning a McLaren.

I had almost the same scenario with my car although it was lightly used with 975 miles coming from the first owner's 6 months of ownership plus a couple of months in inventory before that. My service advisor didn't advise changing the oil yet and reset it for free. I'm going to wait until a year after the car actually went into service... August in my case.

Check the build date (sticker on drivers door jam).

Checking the build date would be a start. Another thing that will provide confirmation of whether to change the oil would be to send a sample off for analysis. 400 miles is hardly any use. I suspect the analysis results will come back with plenty of life left on the oil.
