Default 991.1 Seat Comfort

Have a 2013 991.1 C2 since new with 31K miles on it. It's my daily driver. I've taken long trips including 1100 mile drives up and down the east coast. During the last two long drives the seats have become uncomfortable. Most likely because I'm getting a bit older and less flexible (father time is relentless ). Stopping and getting out for a stretch every few hours helps, but that's no fun.

Anyway, looking for ergonomic replacement seat options. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Which seats do you have? I have the adaptive sport seats in mine and I have almost 40k on it and they're very comfortable.

I'm 29 and my 18 ways give me lower back pain sometimes. Especially on long trips as you've stated. Other times they're very comfortable. All depends on my posture while seated.

I don't think your age matters here

^^^Good question re: which seats.

I have 14 way seats, and other than the seats in my 2000 BMW E39, and my long sold 2002 Corvette C5, the Porsche 14 way seats are the most comfortable car seats I've experienced.

I also have the 14 way sport seats with the heating and vented option.

Until ~ the last 6 months I also thought that these seats were very comfortable. The seats were hailed as one of the best seats in the industry when they first came out. Even my wife remarked how comfortable they were for long days on the road.

Have tried different postures when driving more than a few hours but have been unable to find a sweet spot. Can drive our Jeep Grand Cherokee for long periods OK. Obviously a higher driving position and much different seat.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not blaming the seats. It's that blasted father time that's the problem, that's the only excuse I have and I'm sticking to it!

Again, wondering if guys have tried other options.

I have the 14 ways and they’re the most comfortable seats I’ve ever had. I need lumbar support and they’re the only seats I’ve ever seen that give me enough of that “sitting on a basketball” effect so I don’t get lower back pain. In other cars I always have to use a pillow or something and it never wants to be in the perfect place.

FWIW...I am in my late 50s with chronic IT Band tendonosis. It affects my right hip and lower back. It took me nearly two years before I had tweaked the 14 way seats to the optimal positioning. Still, after enough time, my hip starts barking.

I hope you find the right seats.

Are you sure it's the seats and not the car? The only thing I can see possibly being an issue is the side bolsters as many of us get "wider". Otherwise it seems that the only option would be something that doesn't belong in a sports car, presumably to absorb the road feedback. Good luck finding an option, but it seems like a tall order. Most options trend toward the other direction.

If you want the Porsche DNA, but a more compliant ride and somewhat softer seats (somewhat...), a Macan is a nice alternative, IMO.

In the 991's the 14-way are the most comfortable seats you can put in the car. The standard 4-ways are not very good and the 18-ways are not as comfortable as the 14-way. Looks like you already have the best seats - would cost you a small fortune to swap them out for a set of Recaro's, etc. I have the 4-ways in my car and wish it had the 14-ways!

I found the 14-ways to be very uncomfortable in my previous car, The 18 ways are much better. The sport seats in my Volvos are much more comfy. Mostly due to the width of the seatbacks. I think age is also a factor.

I have the 18-way seats in my 991 and it's the most comfortable setup I've ever experienced in any car. This may be obvious, but have you tried adjusting the back angle for longer drives? I find that sitting *leaned back* too much gives me lower back pain.

Had my first longish (3hr) drive at the weekend in my 2012 C2S. The car was fantastic. I’m 6’ 170lbs and I found the 14 way seats uncomfortable. Hopefully I can adjust and find a setting that works.

Hah, for one cheap fiox, if the trip is over an hour, I put my wallet somewhere other than my back pocket! The lower part of the seat isn't super plush.
