Door Protection
 

I have been very satisfied with a product called Door Shox to protect the doors of my 997. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on my new 991 because it relies on magnets to hold it in place and the doors of the 991 are aluminum.

Is there another solution to the problem of parking lots that works on the 991? And how well?

Magnets WILL scratch plus attract attention. Just park at the end of a row or far away. I've had 1 door ding in the last 10-15 years and I should have seen it coming..............

I don't know about the wisdom of hanging door protectors when parking. It seems to me that is just inviting trouble from low-lifes that get off on keying/damaging expensive vehicles. I'd rank it right up there with diagonal parking across multiple spaces as far as invitations for trouble go.

Just park a little beyond where everyone else is parking, and walk the few extra feet to get to where you are going. People too lazy to park out there are likely too lazy to walk out there to mess with your vehicle. I don't park a mile beyond everyone else, as it is too conspicuous. I just park a little beyond everyone else, and I've never had any problems.

I just park far away, and at end spaces. Gives me some exercise, too. Last door ding I got was ~15 years ago.

After much searching, I found a product that might work. Instead of being held in place by magnets, it has a long (maybe too long but it can probably be trimmed) foam bar held to the side of the car by a vertical silicone rubber tang that is trapped between the door edge and the frame when the door is closed on it.

The product is called No Dings and it is -- or was -- sold at Amazon and Walmart, both of which report it to be out of stock with no due date. I found the manufacturer's product page at https://www.nodoordings.com/product-page/no-dings. It is not promising. The price is shown as drastically reduced and there is no way to order directly. I sent a message with their contact link but I am not sanguine.

Good advice. That is what I do. The walk won't kill you and it just gives that little extra insurance.

I just parked next to a beater car to grab my morning coffee. Sometimes, you just have to let it go. It's liberating for those of us who like to control everything and don't normally let things go :D

Actually I do that with all my cars, even my 7 1/2 year old daily driver. I don't like door dings LOL.

I don't mind the long walk, but the wife hates it --- every time . . .
