I let my 911 and 991 warm up at idle for a good 30-45 minutes before a planned drive. Then I hammer it...mercilessly.

Gets the car nice and chilly with the a/c in the summer and nice and toasty with the heat in the winter.

just take it easy for the first 5 mins of driving, dont go past 5k rpm and you will be fine (esp if you are in warm area like me in Socal)

They must have provided you with the special SoCal owners manual.

Thats what I was getting at earlier...........most don't follow any rules/instructions, just get in and drive and they don't blow up. A good friend just got a new GT3 (about 5th + Porsche) and he has never broken them in. Pretty sure he starts his GT3 and drives off pretty quickly. Never had a problem.

From the Porsche 991.2 manual:
Do not warm up the engine when stationary. Drive off immediately. Avoid high engine speeds and full throttle until the engine has reached operating temperature.

It’s your car (and it probably doesn’t make much difference in the grand scheme of things) but I always understood the best way to run engines was to get them up to temperature as quickly as possible without thrashing them, i.e. moderate load and RPM. The theory goes that you get more wear in a long idling session with the temperature slowly rising than getting out of that region quickly by actually putting some fuel through the engine...

Most don’t drive them that much or trade them in before any issues will surface. Or they just don’t care.

I plan to keep and drive mine a bit longer.

I think its that they just don't care/know anything about that stuff.

I did not see this in my manual. It drives my wife crazy when we sit in the car for a minute waiting for a lower idle. Off I go then. I do keep it under 4K until 180 degrees.

Prefer to wait till the rpm go down. Obviously it was setup that way

See this.... you may change your mind on this policy:

Is this a joke? That's the worst thing you can do for a car, especially running A/C. Letting it idle for extended periods of time is terrible, carbon buildup being but one of the issues. Maybe in 1935 that was a prudent measure to take....

As for me, I just let the idle come down and then drive it easy until temps get up.

There seem to be a lot of comedians on rennlist. To bad these posts don’t really help anyone.
