Is it worth reporting an accident?
Two days after purchasing my dream car, 2012 911s with only 8k miles on it two idiots decide to rearend me at a redlight. The damage is minor scratches on rear bumper and dents similar to shown below on both sides. It is minor damage but before the accident the car was in perfect condition and since i just bought it i would like it to be that way again. If i were to report the accident how much would it devalue the car even though it is extremely minor? Is it worth reporting and getting it fixed?

Friendly reminder you are on the aircooled Forum - I'll offer my 2 cents from only one rear end collision when I owned a 528i - it was an expensive repair of the bumper and I was glad I turned it in and the offenders insurance paid the bill.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Get it looked at. It is worth looking behind the bumper and make sure all is well.
And get it fixed. You been waiting for your dream car don't drive looking like that.

Have their insurance pay to get it fixed. It will probably be a lot more to fix minor damage than you think.

doesnt look like much but have a shop take the rear cover off. If nothing is damaged under it, get it painted and drive away! i wouldn't report anything now but take the other guys insurance info just incase.

From my experience getting rear ended, I'd say it is pretty hard to limit damage just to what is visible on the bumper cover. The impact absorber behind the cover is likely to be damaged as well. One dead giveaway is look behind the license plate to see if the threaded hole for the tow hook is still lined up straight behind the hole in the bumper cover. If it isn't, then the absorber is bent, and will need to be replaced. If it looks OK, you may have dodged a bullet, but it still should be checked out with the rear cover off.

i had a similar situation on my 987.2S
I would say DO NOT report it, once is on carfax....is a PITA to sell.
All i had was a small dent on the bumper stop (the plastic bulk out part)

As minor as it seems to be I would have reported it immediately AT THE SCENE . Supposing those two guys call the cops and claim you backed into them . Now its a hit and run with your word against theirs . An on scene police report eliminates that.

Take it to a shop and see what they estimate the repair would be. Then decide whether to report it or not. I have my deductible at $1K because I wouldn't want a CarFax ding for a repair that I could pay out of pocket.

This looks like a 997, not a 991. The 997 guys might have some more insight if there is anything in the "bumperettes" that might transfer to the frame. Looks like they took the majority of the hit, and assuming the damage is as minor as it appears on the surface, I'd pay out of pocket to get it fixed.

You have to decide and weigh the cost. Bear in mind, any repairs involving insurance will be recorded in Carfax and not only your insurance rates might be affected, but the car's value might take a hit too because it has that collision record on file based on your car's vin number.
