Extended warranty or Carmax
Hi guys,
my 2013 991 S is on its way bought through carmax.
Any experience to use their extended warranty service or any other providers out there in terms of costs , service level and coverage?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated?

You may want to do a search of this forum (and also the HFS thread). From what I recall, they were positive comments, specially since they allow you to use Porsche dealers. Recalled someone commenting that it was the only way he would buy a used Range Rover

My son just bought a car from them and the warranty offered was 5 years from the car's original in-service date, are there longer ones you're referring to as yours is a 2013?

A Jalopnik writer did an article on them and recommended it highly. I think he has the warranty pay for itself in a few months with a Carmax Aston martin.
I did not get it because my car still had 6 months of warranty left, and carmax gives you 3 days to change your mind so I used that to get the ECU read for "events"... but since then the dealer graciously comped quite a few things for me, either fully or "goodwill".
I'm personally getting away from warranties on used cars now unless you buy a risky model like my wife's Range Rover. those things have deductibles, exclusions, and overall I think they are only good for complete catastrophes... The 991 engine is really solid so far and doesn't seem to suffer from anything like previous models... The risks associated with your car are COVs (not terrible expensive) and things like delaminating door panels (generally goodwilled). But if you want a warranty, Carmax is not bad !

I recently bought my 911 GTS from them and went with it. I still have 1 year on my factory warranty but wanted to be covered after that for any major issue... I can PM you a full quote of what they sent me but I settled on warranty to 75k on odometer (had 14k at purchase) $150 deductible for a cost of $2729

Also, has anyone heard about changes in the Carmax warranty? I've heard rumors that it's not as good anymore as the one Doug has, but haven't done any research to substantiate that myself. Been thinking about picking up a pickup truck from Carmax, and would consider their warranty as well.

I have extended warranty on 2 of my last cars with them. No complaints. Doug Demuro explains it well - "Bumper to Bumper". I do love buying cars at Carmax.
