I love red leather interiors too... they’re definitely the only way I could ever handle a car that wasn’t blue/red/yellow exterior. Everyone needs some color in their lives!

I always remember that "some of the best deals I've made are the ones I didn't". One thing is the LA market is one of the most competitive in the US and if you get one locally you can inspect and drive it in person, which I feel counts for a lot.

Thanks! That's a good quote- and good advice. Seeing in person would be optimal, of course!

I have never seen "sunroof delete". Why do people delete the sun roof option? I thought it is a desirable option.

Default sunroof value

When you cut a hole in something it has less rigidity. Long term value on cabs and sunroof cars has higher depreciation historically.

Also, the additional weight up high raises the center of gravity and is a consideration for some that are truly tracking their cars, plus that same group would appreciate the additional safety/rigidity in case of a crash. A nice metal panel in lieu of glass over the head in a serious crash is probably a nice thing.

There is probably a little increased height in the interior for really tall drivers. In some cars the difference is huge. Plus some just prefer the look of the painted top and the cleaner look. For me no sunroof wouldn't be a problem but all of the 911s I've had happened to own come with them (I'm too cheap to buy new and spec my own car).

Thanks for the replies. I never thought about the safety or rigidity aspects.

Seemed like a high price for a 2014 non-GTS. Even with low mileage and a nice build. Am I off base?

There is zero safety or rigidity difference between a sunroof or non-sunroof 991. None. On the old 911's a sunroof delete would get you an extra half-inch of headroom and save 5-10 pounds at the top of the car, i.e. undetectable on a street car.

There's no reason to go sunroof or non sunroof other than personal preference. Which is not to denigrate personal preference -- after all the reason we drive these cars is because we're really just 10 year olds making vroom vroom noises and having fun, so if sunroof delete gives you a better vroom-vroom feeling, then do it.

Default engineers agree

You can exponentally increase structural rigidity by cutting a hole in something.

I love cabs but almost never open the sunroof in my 991. The weight is significant since it’s that high up... maybe not noticeable to a novice driver, but a much smaller difference than using alcantara instead of leather to line the ceiling, which Porsche thought was worth it. In aggregate these things do add up and make a difference. Having a sunroof doesn’t ruin the experience for me, but if I were ordering new I would definitely delete it.

It’s also worth mentioning that the 991’s sunroof is it’s worst offender for interior rattles.

Excellent. I will not let no sunroof stop me from getting the right car. When I think back I don't use my sunroof much at all in my 997. Fewer rattles is a great reason to delete too.
thank you
PS what do you think about this build for a 991? I am using it for GT no track. Long trips to Montreal, Lake Placid and the like.. thanks
