MacGyver'd V1 flush mount option

Thought I would share a quick item that can perhaps help with radar mounts. I tried 2 different mounts on my GTS, but they made my V1 hang down a bit low and kinda blocked my a view a bit, so I decided to MacGyver it and see what I could come up with. It's actually totally flush the mirror now, very stable and cost me literally $.15, used 4 zip ties, 2 ties looped together. Here in Los Angeles area, so many oblivious people walking around(most walking while texting), riding bikes, animals, etc, so the extra view is handy.

Your method works great. I have been using the suction cup mount with my V1. Kudos on Macgyvering it.

Can you dismount it or you have to cut the zip ties? and put the zip ties again when remounting it?

Please post some more pics please.

Sorry, but my OCD will not allow me to like this. Looks like a 10 cent cheap fix. This solution belongs on a Prius or Focus, not a Porsche. :crying:

Why not suction cups up to the side of the mirror?

As a a tall guy, even the mirror is severely obtrusive. Can not fathom having something hanging below. I almost wrecked the other day when I started to pull out and someone was coming on my right. Mirror had completely blocked my view of the car.

The real MacGyver would open it up with a paperclip, rewire it with new graphite traces from a pencil, and re-configure the laser detector into a laser cannon with the tin foil from some chewing gum.

Just sayin'.

I only need to cut one tie and it slips out of the other one. See pic. And that yellow thing, well its something the wifey had me put in, she is from Shanghai in kinda follows that feng shui stuff. This wards of evil stuff supposedly, and there's A LOT in Los Angeles, lol. I'm not into this stuff, but ever since my wife followed that stuff, life, family and business has become more and more happy and successful, so I can't argue against her feng shui , almost kinda believing it now, lol. Life is mysterious sometimes.

I never had luck with suction cups, they never seem to stay in place. And ya, I am tall, so having the radar this high up, is huge benefit. May not look great, but if $.15 can avoid accident, I will take ugly anytime.

well, it's not that cheap, $.10, I splurged and spent 50% more, so had to dip into my coin change box

her is my $.15 upgraded Prius.

for this upgrade. And ya, my last car was a Prius, dealer said he never saw someone go from prius to porsche, and btw, I had 2 prii, put on 320,000 miles between the 2, they never broke down, got 50mph, so damn impressive cars I have to say.

and ya, it's cheap, but as stated, if it can avoid an accident, the $.15 investment is worth the ugliness, until I can better solution, lol

This method might be worth a ponder if you really want to minimize sight blockage.... https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1059...e-install.html

If it works for you, it is fine. To have a happy life, just keep the wife happy. If she wants you do it, and she is happy, trust me you will be happy. And as you said Life is mysterious, that is 100% correct. I dig Macgyver solutions, they are fun to think and execute. Thanks for sharing your pics.

You can try the concealed V1 installation, but then it won't be super cheap quick option.
