Default 991.2 C2 7spd 1st to 2nd grind, only 5k miles

2nd gear synchro problem? Have a 991.2 C2 manual with only 5k mi and I’ve grinded going 1st to 2nd during hard pulls 4 times at 6000 rpm at operating temp above 160. I also drive in sport or sport plus modes and take advantage of the rev matching to not overstress the synchros on downshifts. I kept the car below 4000 rpm during the break in period and haven’t really stressed the car yet to produce this effect as I only have about 5000 miles on the car but the shift from first to second at the peak powerband feels very stiff and notchy even with the clutch fully pressed all the way in until fully into 2nd with a gradual release of the clutch. I’ve taken the car to Park Place and they changed the transmission oil and found no debris. Drove it again with their tech in the car and it happened again. They said they have no idea why and would file a report to Germany. Anyone else have a manual and experience a grind going from 1st to 2nd on hard pulls?

Should have gotten the PDK. Sorry...I drive a 7MT but couldn't pass up an opportunity to poke fun at your screenname.

Never seen this in my C2. How fast/hard are you shifting?

Uploaded a video through instagram on the link in the original thread. Unusual part is that it grinds at 6000 rpm in first with the clutch all the way in while shifting into 2nd even if i dont let go of the clutch

I find first to second tough as well - anything else from second to sixth is butter smooth. It must be synchro related, it just doesn't feel like it's built for it, I think they correctly assumed most track time would be spent in second to fifth.

I just avoid hard launches instead - easier on everything including me

I also have a 2018 nissan 370z that I flogg every day. Never had an issue with it. Both are new cars outside of their break in periods. Doesn’t seem right to ever grind a new car imho. You are right about the other gears being buttery smooth. 1st and second are the notchiest

While my 1-2 shift doesn't grind, it's definitely "clunky". Way different than my two 991.1s. My wife drives a manual 997.2, and she always comments that she doesn't like the way my 991.2 shifts from 1st to 2nd. Her car's shift change is much smoother. I mentioned it to my dealer's service rep, and he thought it was normal.

TGCRUN I doubt your service advisor or even your service tech even drive a manual transmission Porsche. They have no idea how they feel. You probably have much more experience than anyone at your local dealer. Only one out of 10 911‘s are manual transmission and they rarely service manual trannys from what my dealer tells me

Wut? Though I did witness a tech stall my 991 when I picked up from service. Kid looked to be about 18 years old.

My manual 997.1TT didn't grind from 1-2, but it was definitely clunky most of the time. Definitely not smooth.

My MT is as smooth as silk. But I don’t do hard launches in first. Usually I shift to second by 4500 rpms. No grinding. Second and third have seen 6k rpms.

No grinding here after 10K+ miles. When cold it is a bit notchy, but absolutely no grinding. I find the 7M tranny and clutch to be a very smooth combo. I would think grinding would be abnormal. Any sound clip available?

I put it on instagram. Search Rowdybulldog. It’s the first video. Sorry Rennlist wont allow video uploads and instagram opens into the app so there’s no good way go link. Not clickbait.
