Default 991.2 rear view mirror in 991.1

Hi all,

I've tried various search terms and I cannot seem to turn anything up. Has anyone ever installed the 991.2 rear view mirror in a 991.1? It obviously is possible as Suncoast sells the part: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/9X1RVMIRROR.html

I'd like to do this, but I'm not certain on how difficult it is. For those that have installed a radar detector, how much work might be involved after you've pried the outer plastic bits off and have exposed the mirror arm? I can't imagine it's too tricky past that step.

I installed a radar detector in my .2 GTS with a Blend Mount Mirror tap to power. I thought that was quite simple and I think you will find that swapping mirrors is very simple, assuming you have some mechanical aptitude. I think you should just take the plastic covers off and take a look at it to determine whether or not you think you can do it. I think you will find it pretty easy. If for some reason you don't, just take the car to a stereo shop. They'll be able to do it for you.

I've done it - takes 5 minutes to complete the job. It's a nice upgrade.

PS: Part number is 991-731-511-04-4PK. If you know the part number you can shop around. I paid $347.

$347. For a rear view mirror. And with that I vote this gets moved to the overpriced "991 parts prices" thread.

Pretty typical for an auto dimming mirror. Even my wife's Kia minivan has a similar cost for that part.

The standard mirror is $115 at Suncoast

Thanks! I will give it a go. I did the GT4 short shifter myself, this must be much easier.

What’s the appeal? Is it the bigger size, or do you prefer the look of the newer mirror? I actually like the unique shape of the older mirror.

This is strange. I have a 2017 991.2 and according to the linked Suncoast part page, I have the old style mirror. Maybe because I have an early build?

The smaller edge makes it seem less clunky and more sleek, IMHO. One of the first things I noticed when I sat in my new 991.2 for the first time.

It is partially the looks but mostly I feel the rounded bottom corners are cutting off a lot of rear visibility. Perhaps it's because I'm only 5'7" and sit a bit lower in the car than some of you, but I really feel the rear visibility could be better.

The new mirror might be a total placebo effect. I might just need to sit in a new 911 before I order the part.

The old mirror does cut off quite a bit of area creating blind spots which are reduced with the new mirror. That was my #1 reason to change it and to my eye it does make a difference.

I am also replacing the driver side mirror with the aspherical glass to reduce the blind spot especially in the cabriolet.

But I also like having no bezels - seems to be the trend these days. The orange light is gone, it is a dimmer green light now at the bottom. Overall very happy to have an updated look in my cabin. Goes well with my 991.2 steering wheel!

Perfect! I plan to keep this car for 10+ years, so I don't mind spending a bit on these types of things. I've only done less than 1,000 km on mine as I got it very late last fall before parking for the winter. Along with the centre console lid, these are really my only big gripes about the interior setup. I'd love a rearview camera as well, but so far I've been finding it relatively simple to back into my garage. I could see the cab being much less fun in that sort of situation.

^^^ I believe mine was a 4/16 build. Maybe I should take a closer look to see if I have a leftover NA engine
