Carrera Classic - painted black?

I have an extra set of 20" Carrera Classic wheels that originally came with the car - am considering painting them all black for use as track day wheels/ tires. Has anyone painted them black and if so....can you post a picture?

EXACTLY what I was looking for! Satin black, I assume? Looks even better than I had envisioned, thanks, D

Mine are gloss black. I’ll see if I can load a better picture.

If it is just going to be a track set maybe consider one of the products like plastidip that is not permanent. IF you dont like it you can just peel it off.

Thanks for the pictures - as mentioned - even better than I had imagined. Almost makes me wish I had done that in the first place rather than purchase the new black wheels originally, but now I have an excellent looking changeover for the track so all's well that ends well!

I have never had any luck painting, or baking wheels.
A perfect set of original factory wheels. Why mess with them.
Chipped and curbed, sure. Play with the colour.
Track wheels? How many track days? 3-5? Hardly seems worth it.
Want real track wheels? Go down a few sizes, get a gooey track tire.

I plan on doing gloss black on a winter Carrera S set I purchased from a RN member. If you take it to a reputable powder coating shop, you should not have any issue. I was quoted 600- 700 from shops with good reviews. This includes dismounting, remounting and balancing the 4 tires.

I like the way you did these. Barrels are silver. Outer edge is machined. Where these powder coated black or painted?

I believe this is the way they come from the factory.

Yes - wheels on the car picture above are black out of the box. Am considering painting/ powder coating the original Carrera Classic wheels that came with the car black to be used as track wheels.

OP- Powder coating is a bad idea if you are using these as track wheels. Alloys are hardened by heating at temperatures around 350° and up for a few hours. The temperature and time depend on the alloy. Heating the alloy too long or at too high a temperature makes the alloy weaker and brittle.

For wheels to be safely powder coated you would need to know the type of alloy your wheels are made of, and whoever is powder coating the wheels would need to make sure the oven temperature remains below the aging temperature for that alloy. Ideally around 200° for 20 minutes. All of the shops I've spoken with state oven temps in the 300s.

Factory wheels are powder coated, but the coating and heat treatment are done at the same time (and by people who know what they are doing).

Paint the wheels satin black, and then spray can them as they get dinged up, which will happens if they're used as track wheels.

I track my 991 and would recommend (as someone indicated above) to get a set of 19” wheels for the track. More tire and less wheel is better for the track. . FYI: Porsche cup cars use 18” wheels if I recall
correctly, but 18” won’t fit on a 991 street car.
