Congrats, very happy for you both. I'm from Dublin originally and living in the US now since 2008. I always entered BOTB when traveling back home, and it's great to see someone from Ireland winning it I'm getting a 2017 base Carrera next weekend so I can at least share in your excitement of getting one of these new ones. I was looking at the road tax on these back home, and it's not as bad as it was when they went on the engine size scale, as it's done by CO2 now. I think the PDK has lower CO2 emissions putting it in a lower bracket, but I think the manual will be more fun.

Be sure and post up photos when you get the car!

That's great to see, congrats. And I think probably that David's tax comment is due to the prize being taxable as income rather than the road tax.

Congratulations, what a thrill! Too bad Irish Green isn’t an available color. Ireland is still one of my wife and my favorite places. There are some terrific roads to enjoy in your new T.

Thanks again for the kind words.
Yes the €24,000 won will be needed to pay the tax here, which I reckon in the region of €39,000 for the base model. Unfortunately that's just the way it is here.
I would love it in Irish Green. Botb asked people on Instagram what colour we should chose and one person suggested that too. I'd love if it were possible but to the best of my knowledge PTS has been stopped at the moment.
There's plenty of good twisting roads here to enjoy the car on. Was out on Molls Gap and the Caha Pass yesterday and thought I'll have to be back there once I get the car.
I'm hardly sleeping since we found out. I am that wound up.
I will definitely post pictures etc etc once it arrives.

Congratulations - simply AWESOME! A member of our PCA (Porsche Club of America) chapter won a 911 GTS last year and I was able to be part of the surprise team when he found out that he had won. He was able to spec the car exactly how he wanted it and it is due to arrive next month. Great stuff!!!!

Did you have to participate in their YouTube videos and Instagram posts in order to win the car?

No, you buy tickets for a car of your choice from their list of cars and play a spot the ball competition. They told me that the wife's ticket was the winner as it was closest to where the judges deemed the ball to be. So, they arranged to surprise her after that. Each winner is contacted and if possible they come to video the surprise. Sometimes they may just do a Facetime type chat if the winner is too far away and difficult to get to on time.

What a brilliant story! Many congrats, John and we look forward to following your Carrera T journey!

All the best from a fellow Carrera T owner in the British Isles!

Well, after all the excitement and delight we have been kicked in the nuts today. We found out the taxes to be paid to clear the car in Ireland is in excess of €55,000, approx $68,000. (I expected it to be less that €40,000 which was just about borderline affordable) As a result we have no choice but to leave the car go and accept the lesser value option of taking the cash. Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I'll be looking for something else Porsche in the coming months. Pity it's not a new T. I am gutted to be honest.
