Mine broke too (on my 981). It was covered under warranty. It just popped out.

My local dealer would not warranty it. They said it looked like it was abuse. Either way I don't really care too much, maybe its a wear item? I do put something back there almost every time I drive so for me I need to get it back to normal.

Try a different dealer if you have one close enough.

This is the time when 'relationship' matters. These guys can write warranty issues every time if they so choose - I have had borderline issues in the past where they have written it up in a way that favored me.

I'm sorry, but use does not constitute abuse. It was designed to be used.

Same thing happened on my passenger seat. Looked just like your pic. Dealer replaced under warranty, no questions asked.

How does one abuse the seatback release lever? I suppose it's possible but why is that the first thing the dealer would assume?

Yeah, I would have thought that would have covered this one since the part is only thirty some-odd dollars.

But It's not quite that simple for them to write things under warranty too freely. Porsche occasionally audits what each dealer has allowed under warranty. If they determine that the dealer should not have warranted the fix then the dealer has to pay Porsche back for the cost of it. It's my understanding that Porsche cracked down on overly generous warranty behavior several years ago resulting in many dealers having to cough up considerable money. Ever since many have been much more stringent.

I think it's the cost of the labor to disassemble the seat that the dealer doesn't want to pay.

I don't think there is any seat assembly disassembly here, its more like pop off the old lever, clear out any plastic chunks left over and slip on the new one. Zero tools, sub 30 second job. Not worried about the cost versus getting it covered. The amount of time I would waste trying to call around find a dealer that will put it in under CPO is another story. In this case its a dealer on the way to my clients office and I am in and out quick. If this was a part that was a couple of hundred or a grand I would be shopping around to find a dealer to cover it. The part still works right now, I have to be very careful with it.

There is a little part of me that want to take the replacement part, 3d scan the thing and have a set of 4 carved out of actual aluminum. That would never break.

You make that happen and there will be a list of people here ready to split the cost with you!

If we're gonna 3D print, can we do a GTS engine grill too ? $5 of plastic for $1600 asking price, you got takers there as well ;-)

Same happened to me, warranty covered without issues. Call Porsche if you don't have a stealership nearby

Not to defend the dealer, but using the lever to pull the seat back forward (after pulling up to release the latch) could be abuse.

Default Hinge covers break repeatedly

So, I just got my 2017 Targa 4S back from service, where they replaced the front passenger hinge covers for the third time. I thought they just hadn't done it previously, but my rep was insistent that they actually had. I pushed on how this could keep happening in a seat that is rarely used, and my guy went back to the technicians. Apparently, the bolts underneath were jutting out too far and breaking the hinge covers from underneath. Since list price for this piece of plastic is over $100, worth looking into if it happens to you outside of warranty.
