Thank you for both answers! At least now we know the how and why.

BTW, if you want, when you have a chance to meet up to see your T, I can give you a wireless charging add-on for your iPhone 6 (still in the box), so you can use the induction charger in the vehicle. It is the size of a credit card, but even thinner that attaches to the back of the phone and connects to the lightning port on the bottom of the iPhone. It even fits between your iPhone and the case.

Thanks for the information, did they say how much the cost is after the first year. Also, whats the difference if you have Plus?

They didn't say...but my memory is that the website said ~$205/year (free for first year) when I signed up 10 days ago...perhaps the next person that does a delivery can screenshot the process...

To add more color. Went to the dealer today and the service team confirmed there is no physical SIM in the 2018 991.2. instead there is an eSIM built into the PCM.

In addition there is a spare SIM slot if you want to bring your own internet for the hotspot.

So, I now have "Car Connect" working AND have an external SIM for the hotspot wifi (using Google FI sim)

I still don't have "Connect" working. Need my ID and proof of ownership to show up in the portal in the next week or so.

The 911 price in the Porsche Connect store is $189/year.

Maybe data services are now bundled with the annual Porsche Connect package?

So confusing...

same exact thing happen w me. I called Porsche and they sent a SIM card rt out next day air. Less then 24hours I got it. Easy to set up. These dealers guys say its embedded but you def need one if you wanna do the wifi.

Internal SIM is for traffic, google, maps, etc. One year of services with the purchase. If you want hotspot, you need to put in a SIM and activate with AT&T. You get a bit of free data then you need to pay.

Just like my smartphone, even after 1 year.

so for those of us with 2017 cars, can we use our smartphones to get the traffic/google maps once our free ATT plan expires? i know we can use carplay but I find the in car google navigation better.

I find Porsche Nav more than adequate. Supplement with WAZE.

Curve-

For 2017, I believe you need to have the AT&T data plan for all services, including WiFi. But I think any data sim will work. Not 100% sure tho.

It seems for 2018 911's, porsche wanted in and imbedded the sim for services other than WiFi which is via the external sim.

I had a 2017 911 and when I put in an active AT&T sim everything worked right away.

OK, thanks
it just seems annoying to have to get an AT&T data plan if I already have a Verizon plan with unlimited data for my phone.
