Default Tiptronic swap?

Hey guys,
I’ve owned a number of 911’s over the years. The latest being a 2017 Carrera S. I love the car but it changes gears to quick and I feel the PDK isn’t as robust as my 2007 911 S with Tiptronic. Could I swap them to get the better transmission?

Thanks!

I don't think this is at all feasible. The ECU is looking to communicate with the modern TCU of the PDK. What makes you think that the PDK is not robust? IMO it is probably the best transmission in world and it is plenty durable and proven. I'm sure someone could jerry-rig a solution for $50k or so but you'd lose the warranty on your car and it would not be resalable. Bad idea.

Ever feel like you've already read some variation of every post you see on a car forum? And then somebody comes along and creates a stunningly new, never-before-seen thread! I'll give this one an A++ for uniqueness and originality.

Now all the copycats are going to start threads about wanting to retrofit M96s to 991s.

He got it right above however trying to be helpful if you have it in auto and not in sport mode it will upshift very quickly for fuel economy. If just running errands in traffic where i don't want to control the shift points [rarely] I'll put in sport and let it do it's thing. Most of the time I'm in manual mode and just use the paddles. Then it shifts when I want, and sounds the way I want and I'm happy. FWIW

You already have the better transmission.

Does that make the manual twice as bad, since it is a PDK with a third pedal?

It’s been awhile since I drove my last 997 but maybe I’m just remembering the glory days. I just remember it being more intuitive and less about fuel economy. (Shifting to 7th quickly)

No. maybe, I’m just old fashioned. I prefer my 914’s to my 981 Spyder as well.

Not to digress but the Mercedes MCT 9 speed is lightning fast, double declutches for downshifts and only weighs 150 lbs (give take) while being able to handle some impressive torque, 850nm in the production form and the transmission is reportedly good for 1,700nm before you would need to upgrade it. The S-tronic in the Audi R8 is a noteworthy pairing, and perhaps even more so than the PDK, it always seems to be in the sweet spot.

I have a PDK and absolutely love the car with it, but MCT is proving in the AMG GT R that DCT is not the only option to consider for this level of performance.

When I first saw this, I thought either Marv was trolling us again, or Pointbye was proxy posting for Marv.
